Haven't gone since I was a kid and never for this long. The past year has been so packed with events and work I feel a reboot from it all is necessary.

A lot of friends are saying it's too dangerous to go alone but I feel that going with a group won't achieve the outcome i'm hoping to get.

Your lack of experience definitely concerns me. I'm a very experienced camper. Don't wander too far away from the ranger station/camp area if it's one of those places. If you are just going out into the wilderness, I would advise you to reconsider. Take extra blankets/clothes, and plenty of food and water.

Enjoy your time away, and I sincerely hope that you find what you are seeking.

Would never do it. I would be so paranoid I wouldn't be able to sleep.
At least take a gun. Keep it loaded and on you or next to you in the tent at all times. I do that when I do family camping in developed campgrounds as it is.
After a situation many years ago at a campground we were at alone I never go camping without a gun. Damn scariest situation I've ever been in.

Mainly looking for some peace and quiet and a chance to reflect on the past year or so and maybe be able to more clearly see what I should be striving for in the future.

I feel that i'm so wrapped up in my fast paced job and traveling that there might be a larger picture or focus i'm missing at the moment. It will be more an introspective getaway. If nothing comes of it than it will be a nice vacation with some beautiful scenery and a new experience.

Noted. I'm going to be doing a few 2-3 day sessions at closer but still secluded parks to get accustomed to a longer stay.

In my experience solo hiking (atleast for more than a day) just isn't that fun. No one to share the experience with and it just gets boring imo. Plus there is always the possibility of getting hurt and not being able to have any help (which has almost happened to me before).

Have fun though. I know I'm envious. My best friend and I were planning a week hiking in Montana this year to see some of the best sites in the country. We were so stoked for it, but unfortunately some unexpected life changes headed his way and we had to cancel. I've been bummed for the last few weeks.

Man I've wanting to go camping for a while, which admittedly was from watching the anime Yuru Camp gave me a new perspective on camping. I was indifferent to it during my time in the Boy Scouts, but solo camping seems to be more in my line, since I can have the attitude, "I do what I want, how I want, when I want". And the sense of solitude really appeals to me. I have friends who I hang out with a good deal, but I love going on adventures on my own just as much, if not more.

Current obstacles for me and camping at the moment are that the few campgrounds where I live have been devastated by Irma/Maria, and my car broke down. I'll probably just squat on a beach but I really need to hurry up with fixing my car.

Make sure multiple people know you are going, where you'll be and when, and bring some means of being able to call for help or assist people who might be looking for you. people end up dead because they go off on some random hike somewhere and don't tell anyone exactly where they'll be, so when they go missing, no one even knows where to look.

Thanks. I don't/won't overestimate myself in regards to nature since I recognize that there is no one but myself to rely on and i'm not knowledgeable enough for those situations.

Sorry to hear that :(

I think that solitude is a large part that is missing from many of ours lives. We live in such a fast paced environment and a lot of people reference the amount of people they are constantly around as being successful that we never really get a chance to reflect on who we are individually. Hopefully you can get your car fixed soon and enjoy some alone time.
