Do employers even count those degrees and legitimate?

And they seem even more expensive than a traditional state university. You know anybody that went to schools like those?

Also semi serious question.... wouldnt an employer look at your education in a background check (on top of criminal record, [and driving record or credit history for some jobs])?

Or would it prob slide unless your claiming a degree from an Ivy League school or claiming a Masters/Doctorates/PhD in a STEM career field that asks for a masters degree and up?

lack of research and naivety

I briefly considered DeVry like a decade ago, but I realized that the recruiter was nothing more than a salesman when he said that I scored high enough on the "entry exam" that I could be a teacher there.

Why would I want to drop tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars to learn at a school that I could teach at?

I got into conversation with a girl with a degree from ITT Tech. She asked if I had a degree and I said I had a Bachelors in Computer Science and Economics. A moment later she said something about how it was cool that we had the same degree.

I didn't correct her because I didn't want to be an arrogant elitist, but yeah, they definitely are not the same thing at all.

Of course!

The schools still exist for a reason

Plus, it's great for people like me who can't get into a regular college, or people who barely finished college.

I don't even have a GED lol

Uhhhh....

You never got a flag or weird feeling if a college is being advertised on TV that it may not be accredited and not to go there? Or that you might not get a great education for how much youre paying?

Then again you dont have a GED or safe to assume, even a high school diploma. So I could see how you got yourself into this situation.

Well a lot of people watch TV so it's clear!

And lots of people don't go to regular colleges! They cant get in!!!!

SATand ACT are too hard, GPA are low at 2.0. Colleges are mainly for smart people and those who applied themselves or those that took AP classes.

I took all regular and remedial classes. Plus I was in the "bad" classes. Kids would fight during class. Fist fight.

Instead of lectures, we had rap battles, dance offs, and pregnant girls having to leave and girls leaving to breastpump

I went to one of the top 30 universities in the world. The degrees aren't even in the same universe. Even if it wasn't a highly ranked school, the fact that the degrees aren't even of the same type (an accredited bachelors versus basically a proprietary IT certificate specific to ITT from what I understand) makes them very different.

SNHU is constantly advertising and its actually a pretty decently accredited school. Probably the exception to the rule though.

I know a couple people that went to Phoenix.

Both were in their 40s when they went (both had no college experience, worked straight out of high school) and now have different careers in the degree that they got from there, so I guess it worked out.

Lol Im speechless. The ACT and SAT arent very hard.... neither is maintaining a decent GPA. I was far from a good student but the secret to not getting a 2.0 is you need to kind of pay attention (it doesnt take much) and when tests come you need to actually write something down. Hard to fuck that up with less than a C if you showed up to school 3 days a week.

Also lol at fist fights in class. Do it in the halls in between classes like normal civilized high schoolers.

Then again yeah hard to get decent grades when all youve been doing is rap battles and then test day comes and you know fuck all.

Your school sounds like one of the ones where people graduate and cant spell their own name and the teachers say fuck this! I dont care. And let you guys have rap battles because they know its a futile effort to teach anything. If the rest of your class was paying attention they wouldnt be smart enough to comprehend it anyway.

Shame you got stuck in that situation.

True. Had a friend from New Hampshire and he said SNHU isnt bad. I got the feeling they just needed more attendance and used their online program to do it.

I got mainly Cs Ds and some Fs. Maybe a B or so.

Finished with like a 1.something GPA.

Had to retake reading comprehension 3 times for our state!

And yea there are three tiers
Standard- the rowdy bad kids with gang members, pregnant ladies and fights
Honors - regular kids who go to community or regular college
AP - smart kids who go to college and have advanced degrees later

All that rap battle practice and still failing reading comprehension...

Again shame you got stuck in that situation. Sounds like you were in a bad neighborhood and the teachers got an inevitable case of the fuck its when they try to teach very basic skills you need to succeed in the world and the students are more interested in rap battles, dance offs and being pregnant.

Theres a reason ITT tech is out of business and being sued now

The reason they're going out of business is because they lied about how many people got jobs from them after they graduated. The truth is they will admit basically fucking anybody even complete morons, run them through the ringer for 2 (or more) years while sucking their student loans dry and give them a diploma when they've got no skills to back it up. Then they wonder why they can't find a job.

It basically only worked out for people who were already smart and went there, exempted themselves from everything via CC transfers / test outs, and graduated with 1/10th the debt that other students did.

That wasn't a strategy they advertised however because it doesn't make them as much money.

I probably should have done that. It took me quite a while to figure out that I had an interest in networking and to figure out how to go for Cisco certs. If I had started on that process when I was like 19 or something, my 20s would have been a lot easier.

I really need to get on those (I'm still stuck with basic tech support, though I'm about to finally move from the helpdesk to full tech support in a week). But I didn't go right from college to the trade school; I was pretty much a NEET for two years after while I was throwing out a bunch of retail applications and figuring out what to do with my life. My parents weren't too happy about it, either. Those were dark times, and frankly, it's still having its effect on me even now.
