The hd remake on steam. I've played code Veronica (when I was like 8) , RE 4,5, and 6.

Game seems to be pretty cool. I started on normal mode, not sure if that was wise. The first zombie I saw took like 7 bullets to kill. I know I should've just ran past him since ammo is scarce in this game, and he wasn't blocking my exit (the next zombie was though...).

Pretty fun so far. Glad I bought it

I honestly kind of prefer the original PS1 Resident Evil. I wasn't a big fan of the additions on the remake. Graphically the remake is far superior as the original's graphics have aged horribly. The graphics are about the only thing I prefer in the remake over the original.

Also, the idea that ammo is very scarce in these games is a misconception. It's only scarce if you're playing on hard mode. In normal mode, you have enough ammo to kill over 90% of the enemies in the game. You just can't waste ammo with bad aiming. I think that is why most people think ammo is scarce is because their aiming sucks and they miss shots. Every time I play through the game, I kill probably 90% of the zombies in the mansion. Once hunters show up, I kill everything. I still have ammo remaining at the end of the game.

Ammo also gets less and less scarce with each new game. In RE2, I only avoid the zombies until I get to the police station. Once I get to the police station, I kill everything. In RE3, I don't conserve ammo at all. I kill everything in RE3.

I don't mean that you can aim with a crosshair or anything like that. I just mean that you need to have your character lined up properly in the direction of the zombie. You would be surprised at how many people can't do that.

Taking 7 bullets to kill a zombie is perfectly normal.

Headshots do happen, but they're random. Chris has a slightly higher chance at getting a random headshot than Jill. Headshots are instant kills, and also prevent the zombie from becoming a crimson head.

The only real "aiming" that you can do is to hold up on the d-pad to make Chris/Jill point their gun in an upward fashion. If you do that with the shotgun and wait until the zombie is within lunging distance of you, then you have a much higher chance of getting a headshot. I don't know the exact percentage, but it is really high. In the original PS1 game, it was a 100% chance of a headshot doing that, but they lowered the percentage in the remake.

Magnum bullets will also instant headshot zombies without holding the d-pad up. It's like a 90% chance in the remake, and a 100% chance in the original. Using magnum bullets on regular zombies is very wasteful though because those bullets are scarce. Save the magnum for the bosses.

ok, so one gripe that I'm having right off the bat is the camera.

I think it's cool in some instances, but I've been hit by a zombie a few times because I couldn't accurately tell where he was around a corner, and I didn't trust myself to aim around a corner because I couldn't see properly

That's a gripe many people have with the first three games from the PS1 era. They didn't fix the camera until RE4.

The camera was done like that mostly because the first game was made before the analog stick had been invented. It was too difficult to have full 3D control with just the d-pad. A lot of early 3D games have control issues like that because they weren't made for analog sticks since the analog stick hadn't been invented until the N64 came out.

The game is somewhat nonlinear, so I can't tell exactly how much progress you have made by just saying you have made it to the medical storage room. You can run into that room very quickly from the beginning of the game or you might not find it until later.

Save ribbons aren't that rare though. Unless you are spamming saves every 5 minutes, then you probably won't run out. I tend to save about every 20 minutes or so and still have plenty of ribbons left at the end of the game. If I had to take a wild guess, I would guess that there are maybe 25-30 ribbons in the whole game. I think I typically save around 20 times and have around 10 or so ribbons left. The game isn't very long though. A first time play through probably won't take more than 6-8 hours depending on how much you explore. People do speedruns of the game in under 2 hours, and beating the game in under 2 hours actually unlocks things like infinite ammo.

That isn't a "fix". That's just changing it up. Fixed position camera angles like the first few games have is an aesthetic choice. It makes things more tense and the dev makes you look exactly where they want. You see just what they wanted. I know it can be annoying at times, but there's reasons behind it too. Changing it to over the shoulder isn't fixing it, that's just changing it.

Is it actually normal mode though? The HD Remake put in a very easy mode, so most people pick the middle option thinking it's easy. When you go to the save page, is your saves green or white?

Well in this game you unlock hard after beating normal. I didn't know normal mode was, well, normal, until I looked it up.

I can't believe how many people don't get this. It's not a difficult concept to grasp, yet it confuses many people. Which is easier in real life? Hiking or mountain climbing? Hiking is easier.

Just don't be paranoid, once you know where to go you'll at most lose like 10 minutes of time and can easily make it back to where ou were in far less time. There's plenty of ribbons if you search enough.

Don't go to the resident evil 2 remake board and say that. Their are some crazy people over their that live and die by the fixed camera. Remake 2 has over the shoulder and they lost their fuckin minds and talk shit about the game because the camera isn't fixed. I agree that the fixed camera needed to go, it's really just a archaic design that was need at the time. Actually have you seen the remake 2 gameplay? It looks amazing. I'll link you to a good playthrough of the demo if you want to see it.

Yeah, I've seen the gameplay, and it's one of the reasons why I bought the remake (the other being that it was on sale, and I've kinda wanted it for awhile).

I loved RE4 and RE5, so the over the shoulder camera is gonna be pretty sweet

I also don't super hate the fixed camera. Like you said, it makes sense for when it was made, and honestly it makes the game a little scarier. I just hate getting hit by a zombie when I walk around a corner, and I hate not being able to aim accurately when a zombie is off screen.

side note: why the hell is jill always falling down in cutscenes. I assume that doesn't happen to Chris.

The rooms on the map are color coded to whether all the items have been found in them or not. I forget what colors, but I believe a room is colored red if there are still items to be found, and it is colored green when all the items have been found.

That color coding was a new feature added in the REmake. It was not in the original PS1 era games. It really makes finding 100% of the items in the game a whole lot easier.

Provided you're not sticking to the original control scheme you don't have to fight everything, it can be quite easy to avoid most enemies.
