because no one is doing anything about climate change. Humanity is facing the next mass extinction very soon, but hey, thinking about futuristic cities and visting alien planets with laser guns sound much cooler to most people, doesnt it.

This is why no stupid futuristic movie or TV show or game matters. It's stupid. It's stupid because there's no future for humanity anyway, yet everyone seems to forget there's a huge dearth of species happening all around earth at an insane rate unlike anything before in history

Makes me wonder why the hell dont we ever have a TV show/movie/game set in a future world devastated by climate change. Animals extinct, crops dying, floods destroying homes, humanity overcrowded and running out of resources... It sure would send the best message in getting people to act.

Instead it's the usual but unlikely to ever happen s*** like world ends because of wars/nuclear bombs/alien invasions or the extreme opposite of flying spaceships and lasers boom boom. It's sad how people fear some never-going-to-happen WW3 than climate change that's literally happening in front of all of us right now. Or perhaps even sadder intellectuals in this world can only envision a high-tech future.

Even the most pessimistic projections dont portray the entire planet as being unable to sustain human life in 100 years.

And the United States and most the developed world are transitioning to green energy. Despite certain efforts Fossil fuels are on the way out even in the US. The concern at the moment is developing countries

And there have definitely been games where global warming was a big factor in the Apocalypse.

I don't know about the world straight up ending, but I don't hear any cohesive plans for dealing with say.. global pandemics or the extinction of bees. I think survival of the species is going to be a much higher priority than inventing "cool futuristic shit."

at this point we'd need a serious worldwide effort to actually combat this. It's really unrealistic given greed still triumphs the majority.

I agree, it seems like we're already past the point of no return. It is still possible to invent new ways of combating these issues, but it's hard to say.

I can also see things like future food and water shortages causing an uptick in the amount of wars being fought worldwide. Who knows when/if we will see nuclear weapons involved again. All it really takes is someone with nothing left to lose.

The only mass extinction events we could be facing would be a super volcano erupting, a large solar event, or a celestial impact. A nuclear winter from war could count too, I suppose.

Well.... keep in mind that the conflict in Syria was sparked due to a drought. The climate will likely contribute to a lot of refugees in the future, either directly (e.g., floods, droughts etc) or indirectly (from conflicts arising partly due to harsh conditions).
