I've read to make an X1 controller wired you just need a micro USB cable, but I remember on the 360, the controller would still shut off over time. You needed an actual MS wired controller to keep the controller on full-time when not in use. Do the X1 controllers work the same way? Am I going to have to buy a third-party wired controller?

with the 360, those cables did nothing but charge the controller. it still operated wirelessly, so as a result it would turn itself off.

the x1 controller, however, operates wired when plugged in. the wireless completely shuts off.

so you'll be fine

Why would you need it to be on if you're not using it?

The second half is right for all I know but they didn't do "nothing but charge" the controller. That implies you have to have a battery pack in there, which isn't true. The cable can also act as a direct power source for the controller.

Rubber band-ing. Wireless won't reach the couch in the other room. (Otherwise I could just release L and press it again once-in-a-while.)

I asked yesterday if there was a way to stream the Xbox to my phone, but I don't think anyone replied.

I don't know what that is. It looks like you're talking about something where you hold a button down or stick forward? Wouldn't that kind of action keep the controller on?

supplying the controller with power is literally charging the controller

If you want to get super literal, yeah, you can say that electrical charges are being provided, but nobody uses the word "charge" like that. You don't "charge" an electrical device unless it has batteries.

Uhh I'm dumb for many reasons but my failure to refer to merely powering a device as "charging" it is not one of them

Like send electrical impulses to process it in your brain? Or charge as they say?

Dude I know what electrical charges are. My point is that when people say they are "charging" an electronic device they are storing energy in a battery. Powering something is not the same as charging it

you can think that if you want to but we both know that the device is being charged with electricity in order to function

If you just hold a button down, the controller shuts off over time. You have to be repeatedly pressing buttons (at least once every ten or so minutes) to keep it from turning off automatically. If it's wired, it will never shut off.
