What the movie actually said: "If you push the button, we get a sequel in two years. If you don't push the button, we reboot in two years." After Jurassic Park 3, we couldn't bribe Sam Neil back if it meant saving the world form extinction. Jeff Goldblum agreed to return for Independence Day 2 and it was all we could do to get a cameo from him. If we get a reboot, we can make it grittier and closer to the book. We'll have a new Alan Grant, a new Ian Malcolm. We'll let Muldoon survive this time and everybody will be happy. And the dinosaurs will be new again because we're seeing them again for the first time." "Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard would be happy to return for another sequel. You couldn't guarantee that with the original Alan, Ellie, and Ian. How could you guarantee that with the new ones? An actor in the hand is worth two in the casting call.
