Comes from my days of playing MMOs. Used to go by Ecwcwwe, but when I got to a high enough level to go boss-raiding, guilds were hesitant to let me join in, assuming I was a hacker (most thought it was just a "jumbled" name). So, when I was able, did a name-change to let 'em know I was legit/authentic.

I used to frequent a RealChat chatroom when I had dial-up. You'd get banned until a rollover time, at which point the chat would reset and your slate would be clean - but with dial-up, I could reset my internet settings and get back in instantly.

This didn't work because the admins could see the region of the user connecting to the room, and I was one of the only Australian users of the chatroom. That didn't stop me though - you could make up a username on the spot and log in as a guest, so I spent about an hour trying out new usernames and getting banned for bypassing my ban. One of those names was Mr. Mallard.

I had to make a new profile on another website a few years later, and I remembered how I'd done this - eventually I trotted out MrMallard, and the rest is history.

I was just obsessed with astronomy when I made this. I spent hours on hubblesite every day staring at all the pictures of spiral galaxies and such.
