I know some Mac apologists have somehow convinced themselves otherwise, but let's be honest here - they feel like crap. They type like crap. They sound like crap. They fail so often that a normal company would have a recall.

They're too big yet paradoxically have too little travel.

They're basically scientifically engineered to be the worst possible keyboards.

I have a 2017 model and I agree, it's pretty bad. I also hate how the arrow keys are hard to tell apart by feeling since they're aligned with the other keys in that row.

Everyone I know that has one says the exact same thing. Its kind of weird considering Apple pride itself on nuanced quality engineering

Literally everything about the design is idiotic.

They break if a single grain of dust gets under one. You can't replace individual keys - the entire keyboard has to be replaced, because the butterfly mechanism is non-replaceable.

All that on top of the fact that they're such a pain in the ass to use even WHEN they're working right.

I get that Apple hates to admit design flaws. Remember how iPhone 4 "antennagate" people were "holding it wrong"?

I just looked this up and I am really curious why they created this.

When they introduced them in 2016 they insisted that it was the forefront of future keyboard technology and that people would get used to them and never go back.

Instead, people generally hated them and still hate them.

It doesn't really look like anything revolutionary, though, just keys set deeper into the frame of the keyboard :\

I don't even know why anyone would want that. It's annoying typing on a touch screen and it looks like they're trying to emulate that with a physical keyboard...

iirc they did it to make the keyboard thinner, thus making the laptop thinner

kinda silly given that Apple already has some of the thinnest laptops around. it's just a dick measuring contest
