if it was between TC and another guy. TC be in trouble. stand your ground law comes into play if his life is in imminent danger during a fight ie a ground and pound, or being attacked with a weapon.

Depends on the state, tort law is state level.

Also, the fighting words doctrine is still valid but is likely codified in each state.

Depends what state you live in. Talking shit isn't against the law, physically attacking people is, and defending yourself from physical attack with deadly force is perfectly legal in most states.

If this happened in Florida or Texas, you'd be fine. If this happened in New Jersey or California, you'd be going to jail for a long time.

Fighting words do exist as a legal term. See the Chaplinsky supreme court case.

Tldr

Fighting words are not constituionally protected speech. Relevance to op's scenario unknown.

Usually though, in most states, you the statutes operate in such a way that you must believe your life is in actual danger.
