Context: I am pansexual and I see a lot of people who don't really acknowledge pansexuality as different than bisexuality.

For me, it's about being able to be with/find someone attractive regardless of if they abide by the gender binary, whereas bisexuality would imply that I'm strictly attracted to people who ONLY fall under the categories of cis men or women. Just my two cents; I don't think there's a right/wrong response to this tbh.

Curious to see what y'all's take on this is.

They're similar but not identical. I dunno why people are so against the idea of pansexuality. It's THEIR sexuality, why do we need to try to police the sexual orientations of others to that extent?

Personally, I think the more positive use of it would be that bisexuals prefer their men to be masculine and women to be feminine, and pansexuals don't really care about that. Which makes people seem to think they're just pretentious bisexuals?

This is my problem with the term "pansexual". It seems to be implying anyone that's bi is closed-minded to people that are transgender.

Voted for same thing, but then thought: Hey I'd suck a dick if it belonged to a well kempt, handsome young man but I wouldn't long for their long term companionship, that's what the woman is for and that woman can suck my dick instead! I'd say pansexual is being 100% attracted to both sides instead of like 70/30 or something. No apache helicopters or the other 60 genders here!

It just seems like an absolutely pointless distinction imo.

Like, why would you even need to subscribe to label at that point? Just tell people you don't have an exclusive preference or something. It will have the same effect as telling people you're bi/pan/etc. It's not like most people will really care, either.

I've always been under the impression that bisexuals find only two genders attractive, but those genders can be cis or trans as long as they identify one way or the other.

Pansexuality is finding attraction to anyone. They can be attracted to people that are gender fluid, androgynous or otherwise don't identify as strictly a man or a woman.

Pansexuality is bisexuality with a little extra. It means you are also attracted to intersex people. A bisexual might not be into that. However, most people aren't faced with interactions with intersex people so it never even is a question to them. Which explains why most people don't know about or use the term pansexual.

I thought bisexual was that you're not homosexual nor hetereosexual - you can be attracted to your own gender, but not exclusively.

And pansexual was basically gender doesn't matter, species wouldn't even matter so like, if intelligent aliens showed up and one had a personality a pansexual finds attractive then they can just as easily be into them as a homosexual would someone of their own gender for example. And so in the future when androids are vying for equality, and aliens are making contact, pansexuals will be leading the charge in having sex with them, those brave pioneers.

All of these labels are just social constructs! Not every little thing needs to be labeled and categorized and placed in a group! Everybody has different tastes, desires, attractions, connections, etc.

Arguing over these made up rules for made up things is dumb! I can be attracted to someone and/or have an emotional connection to someone regardless of who they are. I can do sexual stuff that feels good with anyone.

Voila

lol but seriously yall this is dumb stuff to argue about just like whatever you like and dont worry about it :3

This is the only good post in the topic.

It's bizarre to see so many of you debating and dogmatizing all this shit. Like a religion. Where a priesthood is establishing dogma / rules for everyone to follow and the more virtuous priests who are more steeped in the rhetoric and theology correct the lesser skilled theologians.

Like who you like, that's how simple this is. It's almost as if some people have fetishized the need to label everything and to build up this unnecessarily complex framework of sexuality. Wtf.

I mean... having a label to describe yourself can be pretty nice?

I went years trying to figure out what was wrong with me that I didn't want to date people or have sex with them. I felt so broken I didn't see anyone and think "I want to have sex with them." like everyone else does, and like it's treated as being so normal to do, and if you don't, then you're wrong somehow. Everyone else went into those phases but I just... didn't. It was quite a relief to learn about the term Asexual because with a word for it, I didn't feel so broken.

Yea, they're the same thing TC. They want you to believe that their love transcends genders or something really spiritual like that, but at the end of the day you're still waking up next to someone who has either a penis or vagina.

I think it might be an attempt to distance themselves from the stigma associated with bisexuality. It isn't right, but a lot of people assume that bisexuals whore around a lot. I guess I can understand that. I still have to suppress an eyeroll when someone tells me they're pansexual though.
