Why not just set an alarm for when you need to wake up and then get out of bed when it goes off? Why wake up earlier than you actually have to wake up just to hit "snooze" a couple times?

my dog is the alarm clock. i always seem to get up when it scratches the door.
she's been getting pretty good at trying to go for a walk at 7am.

also why i have to go to bed early because i don't function without enough sleep.

This. If I set my alarm for 9:45 and get up when it goes off, Im exhausted for most of the day. If I set it for 9:15 and hit snooze until 9:45 Im good.

Why is that? Wouldnt you technically be getting more sleep if you sleep right until 9:45 instead of waking up at 9:15 and however more times you need to hit snooze to get to 9:45?

I just have alarms set at 15 and 10 minutes before I need to get up, when I need to get up, then 5 after. It's more to make sure I actually get up instead of a better sleep thing, though.

I do that too (although only 3-4, set 15 minutes apart not 6), but its basically the same effect as hitting snooze.

Yeah Id be getting a half hour more sleep but Id have to get up immediately and get ready for work. With snooze I can gradually wake up over the course of that half hour.

I snooze so I can "drift" awake. My alarm starts going off at 6:40 and I'm out of bed a little after 7.

I use 4 minute intervals :D

Snooze just makes it more Comfortable, less stressful. If I can lay down and kinda just relaxes there, in and out of sleep, it's so much more relaxing than being ripped right out of deep sleep.

Cept that isn't how it works. Most people will drift right back into deep sleep after hitting the snooze button. If you can actually remain awake, then hitting the snooze button wont really do any harm, but if you actually fall asleep, you will be awoken from deep sleep every time you hit the snooze button. Not good for you at all.

I hate getting up immediately when I wake up. Can't stand it. When I sleep between snoozes, it's some of my best sleep even though it's only in 15 minute blocks. If I'm awake throughout and keep hitting snooze, I would be awake indefinitely anyway. If I decide I want to get up earlier than my typical get up time, I have the extra time to do so. Overall, less stress, so it's better for me. Plus on workdays, I have very bad morning anxiety.

No they won't, not unless you're snoozing for a long ass time. Deep sleep takes a while to get into.

Mixed deep sleep with beginning of sleep cycle, still one of the worst parts to wake up in.

The bed is so much cozier when you are laying in it half awake right before having to get up. You miss out on that if you get up as soon as you wake up. Also time for mental preparation for the day.

I don't know about these other guys, but it's better for me to gradually wake up in segments, as oppossed to jumping up out of bed the instant my alarm wakes me at go time. Even though I'd technically get more sleep if I slept all the way up until go time, I would feel as though it was less because I got up all at once, compared to waking up little by little.
