No you're not wrong but neither is the other side. Or do you really think a whites "civil rights" march isn't a bunch of racists?

I think either side that tries to exclude people from anything based on race is a bunch of racists. But according to liberals only white people can be racist because "they have all the power" while minorities have no power thus can't be racist.

No ones stupid enough to believe these kinds of lies.

At least make it something plausible, or more importantly, entertaining.
Actually go look it up yourself and see what kind of pricing it is for "Rent" in CA and compare it to what you can get elsewhere in the country.

That's not what was being discussed. No one I know had their rent double in the last few years, hell I'll even say decade just to be fair.

So unless it happened somewhere outside of pretty much any major city in CA aside from SF since I don't know many out ther he's wrong. It didn't happen in SD, didn't happen in LA, didn't happen in SJ, etc. etc.

Because most of the major cities in Texas have a strong non-conservative population. It's just the rural areas of Texas that are filled with small-town mentality that end up being conservative.

Misleading topic title. The billboard was privately owned and the message sponsored by a private party.

The rural area of Texas is massive, so it adds up. Plus we have a lot of large cities, so even a 'town' as large as 125,000 people in a metropolitan area is considered 'rural' and is conservative. I lived in one of these towns for a while.

Here is an older map, I think the liberal areas have grown a bit around the larger cities since then (at least that's what the news tells me + office changes that has been happening).

This hasn't been my experience. We have tons of shirts, signs, etc. with slogans about "it's okay you weren't born here, you're welcome here" etc.

Also things like "I'm a Canadian Texan now!" or "I got here as fast as I could!"

The joke in Austin is that there are very little natives anymore because it's a city of out-of-towners.

I've only seen the got here fast as I could.
Tho I hardly ever go deep into Austin :V

From a historical perspective, what happened to the original Mexican/Spanish texans? ("Tejanos").

If most of rural texas is sundown town territory where they're not welcome, does this mean they all migrated to the cities like in the map that Asherlee posted? Did they all go to California and New Mexico?

It's harder to hate other cultures when you're exposed to them. That's why urban centers tend away from conservatism. It seems people near the border experience something similar.

That's a canard. Outside of experiencing political oppression which might swing their vote, hispanic families tend to have similar voting trends to other ethnicities. I.e. older generations tend toward conservatism. So implying that "those districts swing blue because of the brown people" isn't a valid reason.

Texas has a lot of weird immigration. I think a lot of Mexicans can trace their families back to those people and still live all over the state. From my perspective, Mexicans and white people are integrated heavily in Texas. Lots of half-and-half people around. My wife is half Mexican and half German. I'm a mixed bag of Spanish, Middle Eastern, Jewish (if that counts), Native American, German and I'm told some Austrian.

Central Texas (where a lot of my family is from for many generations) was settled by Germans and they brought a ton of that culture here. It still remains. I think this area has a lot of German-Mexican influences that you can experience all the time, which feels unique from the rest of the state. There is also a decent amount of Czechs/Bohemians.

Fascinating.

Are all mexicans seen the same there? I mean if you talk to Mexico-Mexicans, or Colombia-Colombians they will tell you there's a clear distinction between the white-looking ones (I'd call them white, but it triggers white americans for some reason) and the indigenous looking ones.... does that distinction just disappear over there? Or maybe you don't get enough of either type?

You've just experience a major fault in reading comprehension. I'll spell it out for you: densely packed urban centers expose you to other cultures, help you see them as people and not a nebulous other. Being close to a border seems to have a similar effect, as you're likely to personally meet people who came across said border.

A simple google search shows the hispanic population as a whole heavily leans towards the democrats. Also I don't know what South asian people have to do with anything, they aren't a major ethnic group in south texas.

Nah, what the research shows is that a larger portion of the hispanic vote is younger, and younger people lean to the left. Of course if you look at the current situation it's easy to see why hispanic voters might not like Trump's administration and their child internment camps which pull about 50 children a day from their families. That's all before you figure in that, out of all children in detention, there are thousands who are 'misplaced'.

That's not disputing anything I said.

Also the research shows, regardless of age, even with the older generation more likely to identify as conservative, support for the democratic party is still much stronger.
