To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Rick's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick & Morty truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rick's existential catchphrase "Wubba Lubba Dub Dub," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon's genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them.

And yes, by the way, i DO have a Rick & Morty tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid

Honest answer: the humor is certainly more clever than a lot of other animated shows (I'm looking at you, Family Guy), and the writers attempt to keep a lot of it semi-realistic, but with a bit of comedic exaggeration.

This. I generally try to avoid most threads about this show because the haters are about as intolerable as the fans that make it seem like they are brilliant because they "get it". It's really in general become such a shitty fan/hater community on similar levels as Star Wars.

The show is only smart in the sense that a lot of the scenarios and jokes are placed in a context that some people just won't understand. Making jokes about interdimentional travel, cloning, and etc don't make sense to people who have no idea what they are

The Council of Ricks? Yeah, they come back to it a couple times. It's pretty funny.

Thoughts on the improv episode? I think that's the funniest thing the show has done, though there are some Morty moments later that come pretty close.

Thoughts on the improv episode?

I thought it was abysmal, honestly. I had blocked it from my memory. It wasn't clever and it didn't sound professional. It sounded like a so-so pitch session.

It's a pretty funny, entertaining show. Some of the deeper moments hit and some don't. I don't really like s3.

I like the memes about the show, high iq etc. It's part of the charm. It's so stupid it's satire in my mind now.
