You need an AGS-101 screen (essentially it's an aftermarket GBA SP screen) and a special ribbon adapter.

It takes some time as you need to jerryrig the screen to fit the shell (not difficult), and solder one wire from the ribbon to the motherboard to power the screen

I've seen these before when trying to mod my GBA screen, but I wasn't really interested. I tried instead to front-light it with LEDs, which didn't really work, but oh well. For me the joy of modding is in the experience and the potential to figure something out that maybe nobody has done before, even if it's very minor.

This is too ready-made for me, plus I feel like if you're willing to pay for one of these screens, at that point you might as well just get an actual GBA SP. Hope you're enjoying it though, whatever floats your boat.

Well, yeah i wouldn't say it's a tall task do do the mod. One reason why I wanted to do this was because I'm not a fan of the GBA SP's form factor and prefer the layout of the original.

I think the mod makes the handheld more useful as you don't need to use a front light

There are lots of tutorials online. I was lucky to find my screen on Amazon bundled with the adapter ribbon and plastic screen plate.

Some people like how the original GBA feels in your hands better than the SP model. Personally I like both equally and have both. I don't like the micro much though.

Yeah, I remember the sp feeling a little bit cramped in my hands compared to the OG Gba

For me I need the clamshell design, my of GBA screen was so scratched up after a while. These days you could get a glass screen protector and all but didn't have that back then

Personal preference, I find the SP's fo factor a bit clamped, so that's why I went ahead with this mod.

There was a working Dreamcast emulator on it but I think it worked like less than one frame per second.
