Do you think they would've became more pop rockish? Or do you think they would still be at their roots? What band do you think they would sound similar to in 2018?

They would have lost popularity 20 years ago. Like Kurt said, it's better to burn out than fade away.

That's a Neil Young quote, not a Cobainer!

Nirvana was already in the process of breaking up when Kurt killed himself.
Even if they didn't and he didn't accidentally kill himself with his drug addiction by now he would've been a shell of his former self.

Probably would've been still relevant and widely hatsd on the internet for being a massive SJW by today's standards.

This. Kurt never would've gone on to be a mainstream arena rock act. That doesn't mean he would've been good either, but the dude absolute desised fame and the mainstream too much to go that route and unless he did something stupid like tax fraud or something, he never would've gotten to a washed up desperate for money phase just off royalties for their earlier work alone.

This. Though I honestly don't really care for Nirvana or grunge in general, but I can't imagine their fans even loving them this long later. The genre actually died pretty quick.

Nirvana was pretty good, but if they kept on making the same old 3-chord songs it would've gotten worn-out after a while.

That's why AiC and Soundgarden are superior. They're actually innovative.

Really hard to see a band who made songs like Polly, Sappy, Rape Me, etc. had a feminist as a frontman and songwriter who put messages against racist, sexist, homophobic, bigotted people in the sleeves of their albums of direct lines in the sand saying they didn't care if you liked them if you were any of those things, that not to bother coming to their shows because they hate you, among many other things, would go the route of sounding like incels of all things, especially since in between that time they would've had a literal endless supply of pussy still being thrown at them.

Kurt would've been declared a far left SJW by today's standards. Honestly he probably would've ended up doing some form of political activism or something like what Krist does if he'd managed to get clean at some point.

This lol. Realistically they would've broken up soon after and never would've made more music. They might have done a reunion but it would've just been a tour, no new material.

Cobain would've just fucked around with whatever he wanted, maybe his collaboration with the dude from REM would've panned out into something.

Probably overly 'artsy', dark, and slightly weird.

I feel like he would have picked up some weird instrument along the way and decided to dedicate an entire album to it. The hardcore fans would adore it just because it was his, the rest of us would forget it in a few months.

I could see him definitely just getting nore pretentious with time and becoming overly artsy to the point it's meaningless.

Smashing Pumpkins would have ended up being the biggest alt-band of the 90s and Nirvana would've faded into the ether.

But seriously, SP fell the fuck apart after Kurt died and stuff I've read regarding Courtney Love and Billy Corgan after all that makes me think there was collusion that backfired. SP was really starting to take off til all headlines shifted towards KC's death.

His voice is probably the least important part of that tbh. Just looking at his big dumb riffs, simple pop arrangements, reliance on half-time "groovy" tempos and the loud/soft verse-to-chorus hooks, and general aesthetic, there's little difference between what he did and what the dreaded post-grunge bands were doing just a few years later.

Like, if you like them it's whatever, but you can't call Foo Fighters or one of those other late 90's bands butt rock while pretending Nirvana is somehow not.

Did you when listen to In Utero bro?

He'd probably just be the Alan Moore of the music world, bitter about everything and constantly trying to sabotage the industry because he's mad something of his got popular that people took in the wrong direction.

Occasionally, he would make an album that is garbage and too deep 4 u.

Shit he was already bitter about that in the 90's to the point where he had a single on their fist mainstream albums already bitching about people not getting his shit and already ended up one of those people who hates their biggest hit.

Dude would definitely hate pretty much everything to do with music by now, he was already on his way there before he died.

Him and Anton Newcombe from Brian Jonestown Massacre would have done a pretty fucking cool collaboration EP, but they wouldn't be able to get along long enough for anything real to come from it.

Eventually Kurt would mellow out of his angsty bullshit and start making acoustic stuff sort of like Bonnie Prince Billy. It wouldn't be that good, but would receive tons of praise just because of his name and past.

In Bloom, yeah. Although Dave Grohl wrote most of the Foo Fighter's first album while Cobain was still alive and got Cobain's blessing to put the album out and do his own thing, so there's still a very high chance Grohl would have left to do Foo Fighters anyway.

I can't see Cobain being anything but resentful to the music industry if he had lived on.
