It's just a progressively strange portrayal of a post-apocalyptic society in which moral values have completely eroded and people survive predominantly on oil.

It's kind of a weird series imo since the first one was actually a little more "realistic" and personable than the sequels.

I've recently started hearing that respectable people actually disliked that movie. I guess they say the story sucked (which it did) but I thought it was a masterpiece from how it was shot how the action scenes were done. I put it on Terminator 2 tier for action movies, loved it.

If you think about it though, they drive in one direction the whole movie, then change their minds and drive back where they came from for the next half. It's a pretty dumb story.

Either way, I think people find its particular post-apocalyptic atmosphere fascinating. It's a unique aesthetic for sure.

This, although FR didnt have as much of a peek into the post apocolyptic societies as i like. What was there was pretty cool though.

Mad Max 2 is great imo. That Fury Road is even better is the miracle of that movie.

So the first one I ever saw was Fury Road. And then I decided to watch them all and the original one was like so friggin' different. It actually kind of makes sense visually and from a story perspective. The other ones are just out there but still enjoyable.

style. makeshift vehicles and weapons. great use of dead and brown to signify beauty. fury road cranks this to 1000 with its use of color and sound.

atmosphere. dead wasteland that doesn't try to shoehorn the good feels. not afraid of making the wasteland feel as shitty, chaotic, and unforgivable as it should. violence is law. nonconformity of society and survival.

it also detaches itself from what used to be and doesn't look back. no one has the goal to 'make society the way it used to be.' old ways are dead and forgotten. there's no sense of rebuilding or recreating. something a lot of other wastelands lack.
