It's really unsettling and to me, that's more effective in horror movies. It works especially welk with the themes that they touch on too.

I'd say the last 15 minutes is more of a psychological thriller where they kind of let their load out. The rest of it was a slow burn horror movie. I'm still sitting here trying to piece it all together.

The movie have a lot of foreshadowing and setups that you don't realize until after you've seen it.
I'm still trying to piece together what the hell went down. If I'm correct *SPOILERS*:

- The grandmother is the leader/queen of this cult that worships this god.
- She offers her bloodline to the god so he can be reincarnated through one of her male family members.
- She tried to perform the ritual on her son, but he killed himself before she could do it and she got too old to have any other children, so she tried to do it to her grandson.
- The cultists fucked up and brought the god back into the little girl's body instead of the son and now they have to fix their mistake by getting the son's soul.
- The son accidentally kills the little sister (which was planned by the cult, maybe? It was a huge coincidence in their convenience.)
- This woman who's part of the grandmother's cult (but we don't know that now) teaches/tricks the mom how to talk to the dead and they bring the little girl's spirit back but also invite the god to terrorize their home.
- And I think the god possess the mom to get the son killed. Either way, he dies and now the little girl's spirit is in him and the cultists crown him/her explain that they're a god and a king of hell, etc.

I still don't quite understand why the mom was possessed near the end and why the women all needed to be decapitated. Definitely have to see it again.

I liked the family drama stuff, and how their loss of Charlie affected them, especially the mom, but the horror elements didn't really do anything for me, and I thought that the end with everything in the treehouse was kinda goofy.

I wanted to see it from the very first trailer I saw, but I was still thinking it was going to be the typical cookie cutter horror movie you see in theaters these days (which I don't mind). It's getting a lot of hype though, people saying it's the scariest thing they've seen in a long time and that horror movies don't usually phase them but this one did.

I haven't gone yet but am seriously thinking about going this weekend. Sounds dece but I don't want to get my expectations too high, haha.

For me, the horror element of it was great. They nailed it better than any horror film I've seen in a while. It didn't focus too much on making you jump or scream for the moment. It put more of it's erfots into being unsettling which I think makes for a better horror film.

But I see where you're coming from with that last 10 to 15 minutes. So much just happens at that short span of time, and some of it made me laugh in okaaay, what the fuck? kind of way like when I realized they put the little girl's head on the statue or pretty much everything that was going on in the treehouse in general.

The movie is pretty fucking good. If anything, it'll have you confused and thing more than anything else.

I believe...

-The mom did not allow the grandma to get anywhere near the son so the cult could not get Paimon in the son she settled for the daughter. This was not good enough for Paimon.
-THUS they purposely killed the girl. I believe the pole she got decapitated at had the sigil of the cult.

I thought it was great. The director openly said he's not a fan of jump scares but I really liked what they did with the sort of "lurking evil" superimpositions instead.

It did, it was just kind of a coincidence unless maybe the girl was in on it but I doubt that.

Get out of here. I'll never understand why this vocal minority hated the Babadook so much. That movie was a legit horror film that was touching on some real shit. The best kind of horror. It's far cry from the worst movie ever.
