I've had this happen to me a good bit. They've so soft spoken and gentle sometimes that I think I'm dealing with bottoms or something. Like for example, I thought this guy in the QI department was gay since I started working here because of how quiet and shy he was (and no wedding ring), but no, he's actually just really, really religious. The guy wrote a poem and emailed it to all staff at Christmas time talking about the baby Jesus's birth.

It even goes both way, I've had people assume I'm a really religious person but no, I'm just gay and quiet (irl at least).

It is kinda ironic, right?

Uh no.

maybe it is just me then. but I swear some of these Christians seem really gay. Like, if I hadn't found out about his religious fanaticism through the baby jesus poem I would have never guessed the QI guy didn't like dudes.

No, and I don't see the link between shy and gay.

it is just so hard to find actual gay christians. they're like unicorns.

EDIT: yea, "softboy" would be a good word to describe it. If you've got the personality of a fluffy cloud I'm gonna think you're gay.

why would a gay person be apart of a religion that preaches stoning them to death?

I don't think my gaydar really works unless someone is super over the top. Worked with a guy for years and it was a really long time before I knew he was gay, and it wasn't by how he acted or came across or whatever, just by him specifically saying something about his boyfriend. That was a big giveaway. >_>

I do know some really religious gay people, though--which I suppose isn't super common but it happens.

Do really christian guys ever make your gaydar go off?

In a manner of speaking some do, but I've learned not to jump to conclusions about someone's sexual orientation based on a few stereotypical "red flags" they might have. Lots of single gay people looking for partners learn that early on from harsh lessons of reality. At the end of the day, what I want before making any moves is confirmation and nothing less.

We're a sexual minority within our countries. So there's always a considerable chance (outside of lgbt hotspots) that people who "look and sound" like us are not.

Straight guys who "seem gay" by today's standards have been around for centuries and managed to procreate without much trouble. They're not anomalies within the heterosexual populous; they're a standard type. They're just not always a popular one.

What I'm saying is that life as a homosexual has taught me to be careful about predicting another person's sexuality. Mainstream society might constantly try to dictate and occasionally reinvent what is supposed to be gay, but it's active homosexuals who get the final verdict on that always. And one of the biggest bitches about being gay and looking for partners in a hetero-centralized world is that a lot of people who seem compatible at first turn out to be false flags.

Gaydar, for the most part, is generally a myth.

Okay, I will say that you'll miss a lot of gay guys and incorrectly identify straight guys by that logic. Stereotypes exist for a reason, yes, but there also exceptions to every rule

uhh, mate, you probably dont need to explain this to us
