If it doesn't kill any semblance of open-endedness, then sure. As much as I love Fusion (and the SA-X), there's more or less a set route through the game (for the main upgrades and story triggers).

Really though, I think Super has the perfect amount of "horror" (and open-endedness). It's not in your face or anything, but it's there.

E.g. The Kraid corridor that Gavi mentioned with the music above, and the corpse just outside the door.

When I was a kid, I found the Metroid Prime games just the right amount of scary.

Really want to see what possibilities lie with an open world Metroid FPS. Possibly with online multiplayer pls.

Hopefully, Metroid Prime 4 delivers on that aspect.

Remember the part in Zero Mission where you have to run around an alien base naked and with a junk stun gun that barely did anything? It was a little scary up until the point where you regained the ability to murder things by jumping into them.

And lo and behold, that version of Samus is top tier in Smash.

Fusion was definitely going that route and it worked really well. Just go on from there.

a lot of Metroid games already play this up. Metroid II, Super Metroid, thebaby, Fusion, Samus Returns.

Metroid II was the first scary game I played as a young child

They're moody for sure, and have a somewhat scare factor with the sense of isolation each game gives you.

I wouldn't want an M-rated Metroid necessarily but if they cranked it up a little closer to Alien in terms of scariness that would be sick.

They toyed with the scary factor in all the Prime games along with Fusion, I'd like to see more of an emphasis of it, yes. As much as they can manage to do it considering you're a walking arsenal, anyway.
