Once they actually showed the "gameplay" it looked more interesting. I put gameplay in parentheses because I suspect it was scripted.

If I had to sum up E3 so far, it would probably be "strong female protagonists and honorable samurai".

When they're good, they're a good place to actually talk about stuff tho. I remember when Odyssey came out, the Switch board was like a heavenly happy place for Switch discussions for like 2 months until the trolling started to get a voice again

Because that's not how this is done. We all know why they are in most games whether you want to admit it or not. It's to show how progressive and enlightened the writers/developers/publishers are. So if they want to do it that way then that's why they have to impress.

The gameplay looked pretty good, but yes it was scripted. But you know what? I expected it. Anyone remember when gameplay was shown for the first game in an E3? The gameplay looked heavily scripted there as well.

The gameplay reveal gives us a good idea of what to expect from the game, but it's not gonna be that cinematic with super-specific animations.

I get that there are guy gamers who don't want to play as a lesbian, but Ellie makes sense as Joel's successor. Hell, she was playable for part of TLoU1 anyway.

I do like Joel more than Ellie, but I'm not going to gripe about her being the new protagonist.
