If I'm lucky I can get maybe a few new releases in a year. 3 or 4 at most.

I suppose I could always resort to piracy but I don't like pirating new games, mostly older stuff that you can't get other than buying used

Just buy the ones you really want right when they come out and wait a few months and buy used for the others.

There's plenty of games you can get for $20-$30 or even less

Which, considering the standard playtime these days is about four years, is more than enough. :P

In seriousness though, the sad thing is gaming really isn't that expensive of a hobby... as far as hobbies go.

A pool membership is like $70 a month where I live, gas and insurance for my car come to $150/mo without joyrides, fine dining will run you dozens of bucks per plate. Movies (at the theater) are like $6/hr with no replays, travel is omega-tier expensive. Leisure is just expensive, period.

Gaming is actually really cheap it is basically immune to inflation. Games have been $60 for over a decade now.

$60 for a new game is a bargain for how much effort they take they make.

Seriously, gaming is one of the cheapest hobbies available.

If you get an RPG for $60, and spend 100 hours playing it (which is extremely easy for a quality RPG), you have effectively paid 60 cents per hour of entertainment. Please enlighten me as to what other things you can do that will give you an hour of enjoyment for 60 cents.

Go ahead, I'll wait.

Yeah, which is why most games are sold half-finished and the rest added as paid DLC later.
