I don't hate it exactly but so far it's been more of a slog than a joy to play.

- Combat right now is clunky and slow. Just slow attacks and waiting for slow chargeups so I can do special attacks, but never actually looking at the actual combat because I'm spending the whole time staring at a meter waiting for it to charge up.

- Enemies are fucking annoying/aggro too sensitive. Ok it's cool that there's level 90 enemies right there at the start, but it would be nice if they didn't fucking attack you when you're trying to run past even while giving them a wide berth. Having to restart a level multiple times because that fucking bird sees me 200ft away and swoops in to one-shot me is not fun.

- The sheer amount of tutorial is not well implemented imo. Bombarding you with text messages for 15 hours straight isn't really learning in a fun way, I feel more like I'm studying for an overly complicated pop quiz than playing a game. Also they're not even teaching the right things at the right moments. Don't tell me about advanced combo linking when I'm fighting the Xenoblade equivalent of a chu-chu jelly.

- As always with JRPGs like this totally uninteresting sidequests. Not even remotely interested in reading what this faceless person has to say because I know I'm just going to have to go collect 14 Cinnamon Buns or whatever.

- The wayfinding is really terrible. Maybe the worst wayfinding I can remember ever experiencing. Like either make it clearly mapped out where I need to go, or drop clues on how to get there, or leave it up to me to figure out. But don't stick a "Head north for 700metres" icon on my compass when really I need to backtrack southeast and get to higher ground so that I can get onto the right path first. That's just confusing, and not the kind of puzzle that feels rewarding to solve.

- The environments are beautiful but the graphics feel really last gen. Everything is blurry and the framerate drops significantly too often to completely ignore.

The story is good as are most of the characters, I'll give it that.

If you're enjoying the story/characters, definitely stick with it. Combat really starts to open up around chapter 3. It's a slow burner in both respects, really.

Yep think I will, just can't bring up the motivation to do these sidequests.

Actually so far it's a little less interesting, but still intriguing enough to continue with. It's loosely connected.

Played the original on Wii, enjoyed it but didn't struggle this much to get into it either.

combat definitely gets better, especially after the first few chapters

definitely try and get the "art available at the start of every battle" talents as quickly as possible. i really don't know why these weren't just given from the get-go because combat is unbearable without them. sadly while combat does improve, the story just gets worse and worse as the game goes on

the higher level enemies in zones gets much less frustrating, and less frequent

the sidequests also don't get any better, i honestly skipped as many of those as i could. they're among the worst in any JRPG i've ever played, i'd take the filler MMO ones in the first game over this because those at least wasted less of my time

Not at all. Not that it's a bad story, but it doesn't really hold a candle to the first game's.

I'm playing it now and in chapter 3, but I'm enjoying it already. Then again, I don't mind slow burning games. Pyra is mai waifu.

Combat picks up a lot as you progress further into the game. The story can get pretty insane later on as well.
