The piercings are explained as conduits that allow Nagato to control the Pain bodies via his chakra.

And the name might have sounded cooler to a Japanese audience, since an English word might sound exotic and mysterious rather than cringey. Hell, it's the entire logic behind "Travis Touchdown" from No More Heroes.

Yeah it's like both good and bad at the same time. I think just technically, there's actually a lot going on and not bad. But it just didn't fit the context of the fight, when Pain is responsible for some of the biggest deaths in the series with a pretty sad backstory
