Franco was great. The movie itself was meh imo. Though it does hit the emotional high points when it needed to

It definitely had a slow start, but I think that was necessary to establish Tommy and Greg's relationship. Once it actually gets into the making of the Room it really picks up.

I actually had the opposite opinion. I found the actual making of The Room pretty dull. It played out how I imagined it did. Which doesn't make it bad necessarily, but it just made me feel like the story of making the movie wasn't really that interesting.

But I can see people enjoying that part of the film.

I legit felt bad for Tommy during the movie premiere scene, but at least he had a happy ending IRL.

I just watched the Half in the Bag on it and while I love those guys I disagree hard with their review. They basically shit all over it and had nothing good to say. I don't think they even really praised James Franco's performance.

In their defense, Ed Wood is a better movie than The Disaster Artist, but I love both.

Yeah, that was stupid. TDA isn't the same kind of movie as Ed Wood. They just share the fact that they're both about the making of "the worst movie ever."

The Disaster Artist only came off as ok to me. There's so much stuff that's not there that's in the book. Of course you can't put everything from a book into a movie, but the movie just glanced over too much. You don't really get why Greg and Tommy were friends, how Greg seemed almost trapped in such a weird situation with Tommy, nor do we see how really warped and screwed up Tommy can be.

TDA wasn't bad, but I'd like to see someone else do something with this story sometime in the future.

I think it's more like the Steve Jobs movie. It's not shot-for-shot, word-for-word accurate, but it's more about capturing the spirit of the story and the characters. It's the kind of movie that could be done as a play.

I usually don't care about such movies if they're about the making of something like Citizen Kane or whatever. But watching a movie about the making of Plan 9 or The Room is entertaining lol.
