Tough call. I'd say Kalos was the most interesting to me, but they were all pretty bland in retrospect.

Story
5, and it's not even close. See "best villain" below for the main reason why.

Main Character
1 or 2 for male, 3 for female. Brendan's hat sucks, but at least it's not Lucas' dorky beret in gen 4.

Rival
1 for Gary's badassery, but Wally in 3 has the best character development, plus his awesome battle theme and mega evolution in the remakes.

Starters
3 for the best combination of looks and competitive usefulness.

Legendaries
4 and 7 for coolness of legends introduced, but 6 for the sheer variety that you can catch in OR/AS.

Villain
5 for Ghetsis. The dude was a fucking psychopath, came the closest to achieving his goal, and actually tells Kyurem to just straight up fucking kill you to prevent you from stopping his plans. 1 and 7 gets honorable mentions for Giovanni and Lusamine/Nihilego.

World
4, Sinnoh and Johto/Kanto were beautifully well made. The regions in 5 onwards felt way too linear and dull.

After E4 Gameplay
6 for the variety of Pokemon that can be caught (especially in OR/AS) but 4 (both Pt and HG/SS) for actual gameplay modes.

Story
They're all pretty equally awful. I guess gen 1 wasn't trying to be anything special, so there's charm to its simplicity.

Main character
Brendan in 3. Fuck May though.

Rival
Wally in 3.

Starters
I almost wanna say 6 just because Greninja is the best Pokemon period, but that also had Delphox and Chesnaught which are clearly not even close.
Sceptile is awesome and Blaziken is pretty cool I guess, and Swampert isn't dumb enough to overshadow them which is more than I can say for other gens. So I guess 3 again.

Legends
Overall probably 1, but there are some honorable mentions outside of it. But gen 1 is the only one where the good ones don't have to carry the increasing amount of garbage.

Villain
Giovanni hands down. Again mostly for his simplicity than anything. GF can't write for shit and I really wish they'd stop pretending they can.

World
I honestly probably gotta give it to Sinnoh.

Post-game
Probably Platinum.
