You have an evolutionary advantage that gives you the ability to to make it almost it very hard to get the disease that kills more humans each and every year.

What if you have sickle cell in an area where malaria isn't endemic? Would you not want it cured?

As a society luckily enough Malaria is not a real concern unless we venture out of the country. However we never know when things in this country or else where will take a turn for the worst. Sickle cell is a real advantage its sort of like how survivors who had contracted Black Death have an evolutionary advantage against dieases like HIV/AIDS (As long as both parents had a survivor of the Black Death)

We are seeing evolution take place before our eyes. Imagine the beings who first started to leave the waters trying to breath differently, it must have been painful and take time to get used to but it became an advantage

It's still a type of anemia, so you have something bad in exchange for being immune to something even worse. Therefore, unless you live in an area where malaria is a problem, you are much better off without it than having an "advantage" that neither you nor your children will ever need.
