You are probably right, though think about it this way: the Israelis want the Palestinians dead, they absolutely have the ability to do it, yet they are not actually committing genocide.

Considering the violence that's been going on in that area for so long, I don't know if there can ever be more than a tenuous level of peace.

I saw the video of an Israeli soldier chopping off the head of a Palestinian woman at the border a few months ago. Shit was gruesome and there was a pretty large crowd. Not saying this represents how the majority feel, but I can't find anything on why he did it or whether or not he got punished for doing it so that kinda sets a certain tone.
