The prequels felt like Lucas actually knew where he was heading.

Disney Star Wars: they have no clue where they are heading while trying so hard to go the Marvel-formular-route. While the formular works with the MCU it just doesn't work with the SW franchise.

That's because the prequel was still working from a singular, albeit flawed, vision. This new era of "just throw directors at each movie and hope they work together" clearly isn't working out. I'd rather JJ have been given a full trilogy than the setup we have.

The side stories are alright. Better than 1 and 2 for the most part.

7 was very hopeful and you could excuse a lot because it was the start of a new trilogy. But 8 came along and just destroyed any interest in this empty ass galaxy.

Heck, I'm more excited about the Obi Wan movie at this point than Episode 9.

I found TFA pretty mediocre but what it was building up could have been decent if done right. But we all know how that went

Meh. TFA is my favorite so far, followed by Rogue One.

To answer the question directly, it's possible, but we'd need more data to back that up. Such as the Rian Johnson trilogy.

Then again, I honestly feel the Zelda cycle is kind of a myth anyway. It only really applied for Wind Waker. Any other application is kind of a stretch. If nothing else, Breath of the Wild demolished that.

I loved Skyward Sword.

But Breath of the Wild was the best Zelda game I have ever played.

I don't "cycle" my opinions.

I didn't like Twilight Princess when it came out, still don't. And all my opinions have stayed the same since beating them.

The only Zelda games I don't like are Twilight Princess (revolting art style, felt too rehashy, bad items etc)

and Phantom Hourglass/Spirit Tracks for having bad gameplay and bad dungeons

Skyward Sword had the best version of Impa, had an actual plot and a relationship between Link and Zelda. Had characters with actual arcs Groose

Visually appealing, cool dungeons and bosses. I actually liked the motion controls.

The only thing I didn't like about the game was that it was 480p in 2011

I don't actually believe in the Zelda Cycle, but I hate this Arin Hanson narrative.

Skyward Sword was a well received game when it came out

When a new Zelda game comes out people shit on it and praise the last one to high heaven.

some dumb meme theory that Twilight Garbage fans perpetuated to deflect criticism of the game and to downplay praise for Wind Waker by saying Wind Waker is only liked because of some cycle, where fans hate the current game and love the last game

I remember the backlash about Wind Waker was the cell shading graphics. People had been begging for a more realistic looking Zelda and the GameCube was the first system that could deliver on those graphics. People forgot to look past the graphic style and didn't realize how fun WW was until they just accepted the change.

New Star Wars can't be saved.

The _____ Cycle posits that:

>The Newest Installment in a franchise will be hated
>The immediately previous installment will be loved

It's dumb for a lot of reasons.

Personally I've always hated SS. I forced myself to finish it, though it did have good points. TP was over-all ok but the first third of the game was painful. (Except for the Water Temple which was cool) For me, Windwaker is the opposite where I loved it when it was released but the more time passes the less I like it. >_>

As for Star Wars, i dunno. The prequels are hokey and bad but I still enjoyed watching them. Every one or two years I'd find the time to have a six movie marathon for all 6 and genuinely enjoyed the first three. I have zero desire to watch the Sequels again except to more accurately describe why I hate them lol.

Yeah, it wasn't a cycle as much as it just was Zelda fans not knowing what they wanted.

They claimed to want a 'dark zelda game', but instead got a great game that was colorful (Wind Waker)

and only realized by getting what they wanted (Twilight Princess) and having it suck total ass, that they realized OoT wasn't good because it was 'dark' and that a colorful game can still be good...

Both the new ones and the PT are bad, and the OT was starting to show its cracks by the time ROTJ rolled around.

Star Wars as a feature film franchise should be laid to rest.

For me, the biggest problem with Ep 8 is that there is nowhere for the story to go except for where it has already been. This trilogy was essentially a reboot and that sucks.
