People paying $1000 for the new iPhone, but it's totally not a status symbol for any of them.

Anybody who says $1000 for a phone isn't expensive is a fucking moron.

I mean, is it not true that Apple products are largely about branding and that many people treat them as a status symbol?

Does anyone even still feel that way? I don't know any apple fans that treat it as status symbol, I know I certainly don't. On the contrary, I see mostly non-apple users claim people buy it as a status symbol.

Samsung Galaxy S9+ is $840 for same internal memory - is the $160 dollar difference really making that much of a difference to exclude it as a status symbol? Are the people who buy the S9+ not buying it as a status symbol too by that logic?

The point is that Apple products by themselves aren't a status symbol any more. No one is going to say "oh you buy iPhone so you must be rich" when the same would be said for the person who bought the S9+. At this point it's not a brand thing anymore.

I would say it is since rich people buy them just because they can.

I already addressed the Galaxy in my post. Sure, go ahead and lump that in if you want. The thing is, the Galaxy isn't the only Android phone or even the only Samsung phone on the market.

And the iphone X and the iPhone 8 aren't the only Apple phones on the market, the iPhone SE is still a valid phone and is considerably cheaper

There still may be other cheap android options out there, but no on is looking at someone who just bought an iPhone SE and saying they bought that phone as a status symbol.

The point really is expensive tech (or things) in general are a status symbol, iPhone as a brand is not a status symbol.
