My woman's kid keeps asking for this, and I keep refusing to buy it for him. And he just asked for it again for his birthday. Isn't it going free soon? Any idea when?

They've got no reason to make it free. There's no demand and it would do nothing for them, not to mention draw attention away slightly from the microtransactions ridden Battle Royal.

So yeah, don't expect that anytime soon.

Seems really weird to me that they would actively lie to people as a company. Especially, when the lie would lead to people holding off on purchasing it.

You must not pay a lot of attention to business in video games!

Save the World is basically a complete non factor for them right now. The sales they would get from it are basically nil. They make several hundred times more on microtransactions than they ever would on selling Save the World.

You might think that means they should just make it free...but chances are that they see pulling anyone remotely noticeable amount of players into another mode might hurt their current, heavily focused boom.

I dunno. I'll just wait til E3. I think they will announce something there. What was the point of announcing it would be free in 2018 and reaffirming it later on if they never planned to do it ever.
