It takes place in Colorado and Utah, with most of the early game taking place in Colorado Springs and Denver. I live in Colorado Springs, and when I realized that's where it takes place (by seeing the post apocalyptic ruins of a landmark I see almost every day), I was floored.

i like the attention to detail, in that you can be in the snow, be moving around and the snow moves, and theres grass n shit under the snow

Yeah, I loved the story as a whole. The game had phenomenal writing.
