For a five digit, you disappoint me.
I don't live for your expectations. You came up with that all on your own and got disappointed on your own with a per-conceived notion.

I don't have expectations, so good. If you lived for them, you'd be living for nothing O_O.

I wasn't disappointed in the slightest. You didn't refute a single thing I said. You just went on tangents.

Why am I not surprised that there's users arguing that "ew gays are icky" is a valid opinion that needs to be respected/tolerated.

Then again it's probably the same type of people who think "Hey people don't deserve to die if they get sick and can't afford it" is a political opinion.

It's funny seeing people demanding respect for people who won't respect others

How dare you mistreat people who think they're well above others
Maybe if you start having a real dialogue with people, their attitudes will change.

Here's a great example of how one Black man converted 200 KKK members.
https://www.npr.org/2017/08/20/544861933/how-one-man-convinced-200-ku-klux-klan-members-to-give-up-their-robes

I dare you to do better than him.

That would require meeting a klansman that wouldn't hate my guts based on my color

It's also silly that you're using that in a competitive aspect when you should be admiring it. It's an event that happened by chance; not like he sought out the guy and tried to convert him

I do admire him. That's why I bring it up. I want more people to be like Daryl Davis.

The man is literally a National Treasure IMO for converting 200 KKK members.

We should all strive to do better than him.

The world would be a much better place if we all tried as hard as he did.

The first conversion was definitely by chance, the remaining 199 conversions was effort that he went out on his own and accomplished it for the greater good of society.

LGBT acceptance is only increasing despite the efforts of homophobes. What cycle do you realistically see being started due to old bigoted beliefs and those that hold them being mocked?
It's called having a proper debate with them and converting them over to our side.

You aren't going to be converting them if you mock them, attack them, make fun of them.

They'll just turtle up and double down on their point of view.

As I said, LGBT acceptance is only increasing year after year despite the best efforts of homophobes. Why should they be treated with respect for their bigoted beliefs when conditions are improving without their aid anyways? What's there to gain?
Converting the rest of them. Your current efforts have only gotten you so far, yet how many people out there are homophobic in the US? How long has it taken society to get to this point? How many lives were hidden because of it. We could've done far better by being mature and having a open discussion with society about this topic.

You'd do a better job by being polite, respectful, and not condescending to others, especially if you want to win them over.

You've still failed to provide any sort of compelling reason why it's necessary to treat them with respect. There's nothing to gain from treating homophobes with anything but derision since conditions for LGBT are only getting better despite them. Treating them with respect only benefits them, whereas the rest of society only sufferers for entertaining them.

Have you ever heard of the idiom "You catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar"?

You will be converting more of society onto our side by doing it in a Friendly manner than by being acerbic towards them.

It's something you learn through experience.

Yeah, you might have gotten so far using your current methods, but from my point of view, you haven't done a good job compared to where you could be.

What exactly do you want us to do to tolerate homophobes?
Be civil in discussion, not poke fun at them. Agree to Disagree like a real adult.

Not everybody is going to agree on everything in life, especially controversial topics.

We have to be able to discuss all controversial topics if you want to be an adult.

You shouldn't expect to be able to convert them in a 10 minute session of debate.

IRL takes a lot longer to convert people than a short conversation.

And it takes more tact.

No, I noticed it. But when they have a life time of being mis-informed; Resetting their reality / understanding isn't going to be quick. Your expectation of results relative to real time is skewed.

It's going to take MUCH longer to get that result.

That's just the way of reality.

And that is the "Fast Way"!!!

I still advocate starting civil in an attempt to bring them around - sometimes it's literally as simple as them having never interacted with someone they knew was gay - but it doesn't take much observation to figure out when someone isn't going to change. So, fuck civility in those cases.

Not those who I interact with. It takes consistent interaction with over a long period of time to convert them.

If you expect quick results, you're bound to not get what you're looking for in the long term.
