Texas Rangers are a good one, especially with how they lost their World Series.

The Angels won the title this millennium so not much sympathy there.

Just for reference, divisions are a meaningless relic in the NBA. Only conference standings matter. Not that this changes the argument at all.
EDIT: Though I realize now that they did matter slightly more during that time.

Yzerman's a pretty good comparison to Ovechkin in terms of finally getting a deserved win. Both took over a bad team as a leader and stuck with that team. They also took some really good teams into the playoffs that failed to win and had some people labeling them as playoff chokers. Yzerman was 32 years old & ended a 42-year drought for the franchise when he finally got his first Cup

Ovechkin still is above where Yzerman was statistically at this point, and I think the Caps hit that level of "good" a little earlier than Detroit, so I think Ovechkin/Caps winning is still a bigger story. But, that was the closest I could get. Maybe Caps will also go out and win 3 more cups over the next 10 years?

If LeBron's first title was the one he got in Cleveland (and he had never left in between) it would be similar. Better, actually.

Basically the NBA's asinine salary cap rules make it virtually impossible for something like this to happen in current-state NBA, because super teams are too easy to create, and therefore, the only way to beat a super team is with another super team.

We haven't really seen a super team in hockey since the Red Wings. Colorado tried to do it with Kariya and Selanne but the hockey gods shat on them for it.

I can't really think of another pro sports team like that in my lifetime. Maybe the Utah Jazz or the New York Knicks of the 90s? Buffalo Bills with 4 straight SB appearances is its own animal.
