It just takes everything 1 did and makes it worse in every single way. The combat in bland. The enemy AI is horrible (they don't even attack you half the time), the boss fights are a joke, and the game has even less of a plot than the first one.

It's honestly a miracle 3 ended up being incredible. Very rarely do franchises get back on their feet like that after crashing and burning so hard

3 is a prequel to the entire series. The actual story order goes

3, 1, 4, 2

you won't even wanna play it once you get like 15 min into it. it is so much different from the rest of the series in terms of polish, design, gameplay, etc. you'll be immediately turned off.

If you get 4 get the Special Edition.

You can even get DLC that bypasses the requirements to unlock certain extras if you want. I got it because I already did that stuff once on the PS3 and didn't really want to do it again.

Kamiya doesnt seem to like working on sequels.

It must at least have had a different director because Im almost positive I read about that in PSM back in the day. But to the degree that there was overlap, they clearly turned over a new leaf.

I think the issue with 2 was that the genre was so new that the developers didnt understand why the first game was so well received. They gave Dante cool Matrix looking moves and thought they were all done.

Nooo, it's pretty damn bad. It's barely even a game it's so easy: pretty sure on normal mode you can just handgun your way through almost every non-boss without too much trouble. And oh my god, I know 1 had some cringe voice acting/writing but 2 really blows it out of the water.

Even as someone who likes 2, it is nowhere near 1 in quality :P

TC, you might as well give it a run-through. It's not great but it's got a few fun elements (customizing your devil trigger, it's a 2 disc game with two different characters who play through the levels in a different way, the soundtrack is [I think] the best in the series, it's got some cool environments). And yeah, it's fairly short.

2 is set in a far future. Not cyberpunk but Dante is all mature and boring.

They didn't really think of a story for 2. Just ignore it and play through it for fun.

It was good. Good level design, enjoyable combat, but piss easy compared to the every other game except 2.

The story and characters are terrible though.
