I'm all for bike thieves getting caught red handed and facing the full brunt of the law, but why root for them to be injured?

Reminds me of how conservatives will ridicule Scandinavian countries prison systems and trash them for being too lenient on criminals and making prison too comfortable for them, all while ignoring the fact that their recidivism rate is microscopic compared to ours. Conservatives would rather get the petty satisfaction from punishing our criminals to full extent of the law than to focus on rehabilitating them even though it benefits society as a whole far more.

Why do you root for making the lives of Criminals easier?

I don't believe in the Scandinavian system of prisons / justice, it's not a good long term model IMO.

And our current system is to weak / easy on criminality as is.

I root for society as a whole to be as efficient and productive as possible. The Scandinavian system has thus far proven to be far more effective than our "shape up or ship out" method.

Really how am I supposed to look at what you just said as anything other than extremely ignorant, short sighted, and petty? There's a system that's had extremely impressive results and you're just hand waving them simply because you don't like them. Lol I mean seriously man... Why do you care more about exacting revenge than doing what benefits society?

No...no. Digging a hole in the middle of the park and putting leaves over top so someone falls in is a booby trap.

This is like saying youre responsible for a bike thief who steals ur bike and then gets hit by a car up the road because you dont have brakes on the bike.

And idk why you think harsher penalties that focus on revenge rather than rehabilitation is "focusing on the victims". How does that help them at all?

Why are you in favor of more crime, more criminals, and more victims being victimized more often?

I'm pro criminal justice reform and hate the way US jails currently work. Doesn't mean I have to feel sympathy for people who get themselves killed while committing a crime.

It's almost like I can be against government punishment while also being for personal responsibility

People who get themselves killed can't recidivize either. While I'd be absolutely against the death penalty being used on them, there's nothing wrong with them getting themselves killed.

It's like Batman. I'm against killing people but that doesn't mean I have to save them when they get themselves into a situation by their own attempted thievery

I remember once at a gas station in a bad neighborhood I saw a really scummy looking guy ride by on a little girls bike that he had clearly just stolen. I thought "I hope a car runs over that piece of shit". I've also had 2 bikes stolen from my work when i was 17. So, yeah, fuck bike thieves. The more they get injured, the better.

You do know that less criminals around in society / severely harsh punishments that establishes true fear in the heart of criminals would make them think twice. What we have now is a pansy waist punishment system with not enough deterrence. Right now there is not enough threat to criminals to make them think twice about the opportunity cost of messing with good folks.

You want to help good people, make the opportunity cost/rewards for crime so potentially bad for them that they would think twice about messing with a innocent person.

Right now, there isn't enough deterrence / potential punishments to make them think twice.

Yeah but I mean if this video serves as just an "example" prank, it does bring about a good topic (hence it's over 250 posts in three days). Like if someone actually set up their bike like this for real to deter thieves, and said thief went and broke their face and got a concussion, would they be able to sue the owner for something? Knowing our legal system it wouldn't surprise me, despite it seeming totally counter-intuitive.

Again morally I have no problem with it, especially in cities with rampant bike thieves (college towns in particular)
