So it looks like the demo may have been straight up stolen from SpaceWorld.

Another source stated that it came from a collector of old memorabilia who recently passed away, and his good ended up in second-hand shops. Granted, he could have stolen it as well.

According to the Discussion page for Unused Pokemon on Bulbapedia, they're taking a "wait-and-see" approach and have locked editing of the page.

I tried to play a hack that enabled the story mode in the beginning, but when you fight Silver, he has six lvl 8 pokemon and you just have your lvl 5 starter. After you black out, it just resets to the title. >_> What's interesting is Prof Oak is your professor and Blue is in the lab assisting him. idk if theyre placeholders or if that was the actual plan.

I hope the english translation comes soon >_>

It most likely changed hands a bit more than that, but that is generally how these things work yeah. Also wasn't necessarily a Japanese guy that stole it initially.

TBQH I think I'd actually trade the Beta Pokemon for what we ended up getting in final Gold Silver. I love some of those designs.

The first games hadn't even been released in the US at the time of the show, Only somebody from Japan would even know what Pokemon was.

That Farfetch'd evo has a pretty cool sprite.
Beta-Girafarig looks better than the version we got(IMO), and I really like whatever that ball tiger/gerbil thing is.
Other than that, a lot of these beta designs are lame. More pointless pre-evos, terrible water starter, and whatever that derpy-ass eel-thing is.

It's also interesting to see how many of these things got recycled(Tangela evo, Lickitung evo, black cats, and the shark come to mind).

Beta-Girafarig looks so much cooler than what we got in the final release.

Yeah I noticed that with Porygon 2 well. But weeeeird how the guy basically just took his design and went elsewhere.

Tbqh though that's one of the few designs I'm glad they changed. It doesn't make sense for a polygon bird to evolve into a spherical lion. (Unless it wasn't an evolution and was named just as a sort of product line pun, like it's just legit the "new" Porygon.)

I for one like these designs. My thoughts. The fire and water starter is rad. I want them to be official pokemon. Perhaps in gen 8 or when they do another remake of gen 2.

Other pokemon make more sense.

Ditto is particular is an oddity because it seemed at that time it was meant to be viable in battle. In gen 1 it wasn't usable. It couldn't be part of a team even as a gimmick because if how weak it was and it had to use a turn to transform. Probolly ditto was going to get more moves than transform if it evolved. Instead it became the breeding pokemon which had no purpose except making pokemon eggs.

I don't like the Vulpix and Growlithe pre-evo since they base forms already feel like babies. Other pre-evos like Doduo and Paras have no purpose either since those pokemon at the final forms are still very weak. They would need to be buffed to make it worthwhile.

The Bellsprout evo is really cool. In gen 1 it goes from walking on two legs to being a pitcher plant. But this evo make it into a bigger Bellsprout perhaps even with grass/fighting typing. Very cool. This reminds me of the pokemon anime episode where a Bellsprout almost sweeps all of ash's pokemon.

Also having an alternate bellsprout evo proves that Bellasom was always supposed to be part of the oddish line. I always thought it was it's own evolution line that got cut and was just sort of Frankensteined into the oddish family.

Proto sneseal is also a good pokemon design. It feels like it was supposed to have an evolution. Its design is different enough that it could evolve into something new that looks completely different.

This pokedex feels incomplete. It seems at the end they had designs they liked, such as Snubill and Togapi but haven't figured out what to do with them. Most likely this dex list was supposed to be even longer but coding prevents there from being more than 250 pokemon.

Finally with the legendary trio, Before people had huge flame wars about what they were with people ending up calling them the gerbils in order to keep from triggering people. This beta proves they were supposed to be dogs. Anyone that says otherwise needs to get over it.

Yeah, I saw that before and posted it here a few days ago.

It's amazing, but kind of brought down by the fact that it's missing Houndour and Houndoom (which would use their existing GS art anyway like the others, but still).

More interesting facts about the prototype pokemon:

-baby Vulpix is a water type lol (probably just an error >_>)
-all the baby pokemon evolve by level to the next stage instead of happiness (usually around level 12ish)
-Umbreon was a poison type and evolved by a "Poison stone". Espeon was still a psychic type, but evolved by a "Heart stone"
-A lot of the proto-evolution for existing mons (tangela, scisor, pinsir, etc.) evolved by level. Some still need a special item like in the final version (ie: Kingdra still only evolves via Dragon Scale, Ditto's evolution required metal coat, and Natu originally needed a Heart stone to evolve into Xatu).
-the black cat pokemon can only be female and snubbull can only be female
-the shiny rate for pokemon is WAAAAY higher than what it is now (it's like 2% iirc in the demo)
-Apparently the skateboard is in the code, but it's really buggy and only goes in 1 direction

I doubt Game Freak will even acknowledge these Pokemon in the public sense. They're probably steamed that this got out as it is.

Plus, most of the Pokemon had their designs adjusted or reworked into other Pokemon. And some, such as Ditto's evolved form, don't really have much of a point.
