But now I'm starting to feel the call. I've considered myself a liberal most of my life, and still do, but the liberal side is starting to become ridiculous. The left used to be the side of science and social progress. Now it feels like the side of hurt feelings and shirking responsibility.

But Id rather another sermon over some weirdo saying how no one taking xir made up gender seriously, offends them.

Haha...I guess I didn't express my thoughts clearly. My beliefs are the same. I think a better way to say it is that I feel like the party has changed so I can no longer fit my beliefs into that party. It's like if you were a real big sports team because they had a really fast style. Then their style change and they employ a slower style.

Being a liberal means something a lot different than what it used to. It's like the political scale itself has changed. It seems much more extreme.

If an extreme group can cause you to completely change your ideology then I question whether or not you held those beliefs strongly to begin with. I understand being against "SJWs" and not wanting to associate with them but if some crazy people (who only seem to be big on the internet) cause you to go from Liberal ideals to Conservative ideals...you probably never really held your original beliefs that tightly to begin with. Just saying. You can still hold basic liberal foundations without supporting SJWs. on the flip side, making such an extreme change in ideology because of those SJWs indicate that there is likely more to your change...

It absolutely does. But it's difficult to sympathize with people who support the politics of the current admission over hurt feelings. The rest of made, and will continue to make, the most rational choice from our selection of (often) distasteful options. By contast, these topics look and read like a temper tantrum.

It's actually more the abortion thing. The absolute disregard for human life was sickening.

But the Rosanne thing was dumb. What she said was incredibly unclassy, but to make an entire crew lose their jobs over it? Especially when the criticized person in question doesn't even look black. What if the CEO of the company you work at said something dumb and you and your entire company lose their jobs because of it? What do you feel about that?

I don't want social progress to be a witch hunt. I want it to be learning about diversity. That people are dealt different cards in life. To respect one another and see things from different perspectives.

I'd feel terrible but my anger would be directed towards the CEO for being an idiot. Don't reward ignorance. Roseanne was an idiot, made a stupid statement, and by doing so SHE is the one who put her entire cast and crew in jeopardy...She shouldn't get a pass for it. When i was a kid, if my parents fucked up at work and got fired, they couldn't say "but i have a family!" and expect to keep their job. Their mistake will now potentially affect me, but it was still THEIR mistake. Not their employers.

You make a good point. I don't believe they have.

I do, however, think that liberals in general have become more liberal so in their eyes I'm a conservative. It's relative.

because of social media and the extremism in politics you are automatically aligned with these people unfortunately and rational discussion can no longer take place between disagreeing parties.

I didn't say Roseanne was in the right. I'm saying they shouldn't punish an entire crew for it due to her one tweet. You know what this reminds me of? When Chic fil a CEO was outed as a bigot. Alright you can hate on him. Fine.

But do you know what people did? They went into actual restaurants and yelled at the staff who had nothing to do with it. One of the staff members himself was gay and got scolded for hating gays. There are people in that shows staff who are black. You are telling them you lost your job cause you are racist. Punishing an entire crew of people because of one person's remarks.

We don't have to punish an entire crew. We can just write a new show and hire them all back. I agree that many self-professed liberals like to make feel-good gestures that only have a short-term effect. The TRUE liberals are the ones that come up with solutions that deal with the consequences. That doesn't take away from the fact that no one should have any problem if ABC decides to part ways with a shitty fucker.

The alternative would be like saying:
"Oh, we shouldn't fire Joe Paterno/ Jerry Sandusky because their charity helps thousands of children. We have no choice but to keep them in place for now and pretend like nothing has happened!! "

Two things need to happen

1. The Democratic Party needs to be replaced with the Social Democrats

2. A viable third party that puts people over profits a decent amount of the time (I've been in both the GOP and Democratic parties and few put people over profits a decent amount of the time).
