Those older games were way too hard.

I love a good stage select.

I loved my Gameshark. You could get all sorts of neat codes for games with that thing. Not just ordinary codes like infinite lives or money. Some games had stuff like items, characters, levels, etc. that had been removed from the game but we're still on the disk. Some codes could give you access to these locked items and make them playable. Or do other fun stuff like adjust the fire rate of a gun to insane levels.

For real. Developers used to put them in for fun, then publishers figured out they could charge $1.99 for them in a 40KB DRM file.

Yup. Used the good ol Konami code plenty of times on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II and III.

Are you kidding? The first thing I'd do when I rented or bought a new game was look up cheat codes! Not because I needed them, but because well, why not? As a kid, I didn't really understand the concept of "challenge".

Of course. If there's a cheat for unlimited mana/energy/ammo, then I always make use of it. Don't like having my rampages interrupted while waiting for those to refill.

Then there's also the more fun stuff I'd use... GTA: Vice City's Flying Tank FTW!
