It's probably not as big of a deal as they're making it seem.

Post-All-Out War, Rick takes on more of a background, "general" role which means he'd be less involved with the actual action scenes, which Daryl and the other characters would presumably take on the bulk of.

This is why I feel like killing off Carl was such an idiotic decision. Because the show has been setting up since like season 3 that Carl would eventually take on Rick's role. And I think most people would be fine if something like that happened, because it's been given proper setup.

But nope, have Daryl step into now for reasons, even though he doesn't have any real leadership skills.

eh, chandler riggs is getting older now and probably wants to go to college, maybe act in other shows/movies, just get on with his life. plus he honestly isnt that strong of an actor. when you cast a kid in a tv show they have a shelf life. either they want to leave and pursue other things instead of being bound to a decision their parents made @ age 10, or they grow up, lose the cute kid qualities and are revealed to be mediocre at best actors.

I actually wouldn't be mad at that decision.

Having a show that's been led by a (somewhat) heroic character for 9 seasons, only to have him killed off and have a former main antagonist take on his role from here on out could be an interesting storytelling decision, and maybe just the status quo change the show needs to gain interest. I know tons of people flatout stopped watching because they stopped watching several seasons and never got back on. With a new character taking the lead role, it might be easier for people to get back into it.

I wouldn't say I'm tired of the Walking Dead yet, I still enjoy the show, but having a different protagonist entirely might breathe new life into it.

They'd definitely have to ease into it.

I'd imagine Michonne would try to step into that role, but having no leadership skills we've seen thus far, she begrudgingly consults Negan for advice (much like Rick did in the comics) since he DID manage to keep 3 communities under his thumb until Rick and gang came along.

Gradually, Negan starts to soften as a character until the group starts embracing him, which of course complicates matters with Maggie and company over at the Hilltop.

Now you're in the position where Maggie really wants to kill Negan to get revenge for Glenn's death, but Negan is also now a leader/co-leader of a community full of all of her former friends. You've got some interesting storytelling potential there.

Well the actrsss who plays Maggie is in that new TV show so she might be out soon. And depending on if they kill Rick or let him walk into the sunset I can see Michonne going with him especially now that she is in the MCU and has a larger role in BP2.

Either way, the killing of Carl spelled the beginning of the end for this show. Congrats to Scott Gimple for making awful decisions.

I really liked Merrill, too. He was an interesting character that had finally turned and learned from his ways. He's even more interesting than boring old Daryl.

I just feel like none of that can realistically happen while Maggie still draws breath. I believe they'll either have to kill her off or exile her, because she'd probably trigger a civil war.

maybe I'm just being pessimistic, but I feel like a large message that the writers have been trying to get across for the last season was, "don't fuck with Maggie."

It more or less happens that way in the comics, granted, Negan doesn't become a leader.

Just heard. Man, that show had potential. Two major fuck ups were that it stopped being scary, and they left the characters without a purpose or logical goal, like they should have been travelling and eventually find people who knew what the zombie disease was all about, where it came from, and possibly a vaccine or cure.
