I never would have guessed Crow was C. Good Lord it's been a long time since a game got me that good. Then Rean's speech to him while they were facing off in Gundams... "was it all a bunch of lies?!"... my feelings exactly. Crow was my favorite party member aside from Rean, and the two had some good bro moments. Man, I just feel so heartbroken that my boy turned out to be the enemy :/ also Crow totally bailed me out against Loa Erebonius with some timely S-Crafts

Also wasn't expecting the game to turn into Gundam Wing at the end!

Now I want to jump into CS2 to see what happens next, but I must resist temptation! Trails in the Sky FC will be next

The whole Gundam thing at the end was a bit wtf to me. Just seemed so out of place.

I actually went back to play the Sky series after finishing CS1 and 2. A lot of people think they're incredible but tbh i didn't think they were all that good compared to Cold Steel. I mean they're great games but they're not on the same level in my opinion.

Sky certainly has its fair share of Gundams it's just they didn't go all in until the end of Cold Steel 1

Cold Steel 2 is all gundams all the time

Cold Steel 1 is one of my favorite Cliffhangers of any game I've ever played sadly Cold Steel 2 doesn't quite live up to it but it's still pretty good game

The highlight of the Sky trilogy for me is when Joshua is on his own at the start of the second game. Really enjoyed that part. I think the only reason i didn't like them much is because of Estelle.

That was my reaction to the reveal of C's identity, but I was pretty shocked by the base disappearing as well. The assassination I saw coming, actually.

Favorite NPC is Towa or Olivert, and favorite fight was probably the fight in the Old Schoolhouse with Devil Rean and Crow against that big thing to protect Elize

There are too many great songs to choose one right now, I need to reallllly think on that one!

Yeah, I figured it was C's identity but man so much goes down at the very end there!

Rean/Crow v That Guardian is definitely a great fight and introduction to Devil Rean. My favorite is probably Loa Erebonius, a combination of loving the battle theme, the aesthetics of the location, and its attack animations. v C in Chapter 6 is another one I really like. Love that S-Craft.

Actually leads me to a new question. Favorite S-Craft? Can be enemy or ally.

C in chapter 6 was probably my favorite fight from the Cold Steel games.

Definitely my favorite from the first Cold Steel game, and I don't really remember any of the fights from Cold Steel II because of how hard I cheesed through that game >.>

Alright here we go! I like to evaluate games based on 5 categories: Audio, Visuals, Gameplay, Story, Characters. So that's what I'll do!

Trails of Cold Steel

Audio: 10/10
This goes without saying. Too many good tracks to keep track off. Started out great with a jamming song in the first cut-scene. I can't remember a single song in this game I didn't like. The voice acting was also quite good (bear in mind I played the Japanese version, so I can't comment on the English dub). Easy 10

Visuals: 8/10
The graphics obviously aren't mind blowing or anything, but I think they did a good job with the style they were going for. There are also some very cool looking attacks (as we talked about), and I thought the portraits popping out during S-Crafts was really cool. I always thought the last part of Rean's S-Craft looked kind of silly though.

Gameplay: 9/10
I had a lot of fun with the battle system in this game. I thought the different AoE types (straight line, circle, single target) and sizes made for some interesting choices. I also think it's fun to customize your characters using different quartz. Mine only complaint is that there wasn't more battles!

Story: 8/10
It was interesting and had good pacing. There were some great moments, and the ending was so crazy with the plot twists and everything. It kept me guessing and engaged for the whole 90ish hours I spent playing. By the end, I was skipping a few optional missions (for shame) just to see what happened next.

Characters: 9/10
The most important thing for RPGs imho, a good cast is crucial to keep my interest through a long game. This game had some great characters and no real duds in the main party, and there are some great moments between the characters (Rean and Jusis broment ftw). There were also a good amount of interesting NPCs. I would have said the villains were kind of boring until the very end, but C's reveal made him A LOT more interesting. Still don't really care about V, S, or G though.

On that note, final character ranking

Rean > Crow > Jusis > Emma > Fie > Alisa > Elliot > Laura > Gaius > Machias > Millium

My overall rating: 8.5/10

The ol' Twilight Princess score, get out the pitchforks! But seriously this game rocked and I think with a little bit more action it could be right up there as one of my favorite RPGs of all time. I do like some good story and world building, but there is a balance to be found. On the other hand, the game had amazing music and great characters. I would recommend to a friend!

P.S. I started TitS but I've already played the first 10 hours before so I'm kind of rushing through the beginning part!
