The point is getting upset or taking offense to OTHERS not singing the anthem is going beyond just having pride for your country. Whoever organized the game wasnt going to have the anthem performed and the fact that they booed and were seemingly upset about that is stupid to me. Also I dont hate America so his response wasnt perfect. But this particular event isnt even a case of unwritten anthem etiquette. If the fans simply decided to sing without the boos Id feel differently. This notion that if you dont adhere to a code for the anthem then you automatically hate this country is idiotic and goes against everything the country stands for. (No pun intended). Like its a baseball game...not even a big one. A local amateur softball game. Why does the anthem NEED to be sung is the question. Its cool that it is. No real issue there.
