27 y/o Activist, Cameron Whitten from Portland, Oregon threw a "REPARATIONS HAPPY HOUR" where they ask white people to donate money as a "symbolic gesture" and then it's given to black, brown and indigenous people!!

It happened at a local bar backyard social where it's shared on social media called "reparations for black, brown and indigenous people. Paid for by whites folks"

$10 would be given out to attendees as "reparations" and said "White people can show up and support by GIVING reparations. Instead of physically attending, your presence will be felt through your active financial support for healing, leadership, and community building within Portland's black, brown and indigenous community.. It was only $10, but when i saw them i saw their eyes light up. What i saw there was that people fet like that they were finally seen"

40 people attended the happyhour as Cameron tapped 7 white people to help defend the event against any potential interference from the alt-right.

While it doesn't seem like much, the idea that money should be given to black people for generationsof trauma suffered and the continuing impact of slavery means a lot to these people.

He said "How often do we actually recognize and acknowledge someone's suffering? We're so used to being denied and any sort of justice that $10 is a respite"

Although it was well received by people who attended, online caused an uproar as people said it belittles the whole argument for reparations as another social justice activist said that they should address inequalities in pay, housing and education and unjust shooting/arrest.

More than 100 people of white and non-white people attended as a SECOND happy hour will be scheduled on June 20th at a Portland bakery where a black woman was denied service after closing time but bakery employees continued to let WHITE customers GO IN to be served!..those employees were fired

People trying to piggyback off of ancestors trials and tribulations and looking for a crutch to justify why they find life so hard, when it's likely their own fault. Almost everyone that came to the US, or was in it since discovery, went through some horrifyingly bad shit. If we all dwell on the past, we'll end up trying to sue fish for growing legs and turning in to other things starting all of our pain.
