Keep in mind that Lex Luthor doesn't predominantly try to fight Superman. He tries to socially discredit him and get public opinion turned on him. Sure there are times when him and Superman have come to blows but he also generally loses.

And that's after he built an Iron Man style power armor full of kryptonite weaponry of various colors of kryptonite.

he goes through phases with metahuman powers but is not a metahuman. his real powers are his gadgets which are not Iron Man fancy high tech but he has things that straight up do not exist like palm-sized projectile grappling hooks that can rocket him up to the top of a skyscraper in seconds.

Also, ironically, Knightfall was another crushing defeat for Batman when Bain outplayed him by unleashing Arkham and selectively wearing him down before snapped his spine.

Fine, Batman's biggest strength is being a hero with intelligence, which gives him stupid high plot armor in most situations.

Meanwhile, Supermans nigh-invincibility usually tallies up to negative plot armor. Which usually means he does stupid shit to get himself killed.

Knightfall is when Bane broke Batman's back. Public Enemies is when Lex becomes president and declares Batman and Superman criminals and sets a team of superpowered people to take them down.

If you're referring to Dark Knight Returns, then no cause Batman didn't beat Superman according to any appreciable definition that anyone would use to declare a victory.

That fight involved Superman being weakened cause a nuke had just detonated in his face and he wasn't able to recuperate cause an ash cloud was blocking the sun. Then it involved Batman going all out with power armor and help from Green Arrow while doing their best to kill Superman while Superman was spending more time trying to talk Batman down than he was fighting.

He does say that after getting a really good hit in and then has a heart attack. The heart attack was actually part of the master plan as it was some kind of thing he did to fake his death in order to end the fight. During the fight it's obvious that Superman is recovering from his injuries at a rate much faster than Batman can inflict them so he takes the heart attack pill to fake his death.

This lets Superman return to the president informing him that Batman was killed as requested but lets Bruce keep being Batman.

Had Batman not interrupted the fight by giving himself a heart attack he would have died.

Green Arrow was involved because he wanted revenge on Superman for ripping off his arm. Otherwise Batman would just Kryptonite him immediately and still win.

Also Batman doesn't kill, that's his whole thing.
