i don't know why but whenever I hear a guy mention that he is a teacher i get the vibe they just who couldnt handle the real world or a real career in their chosen field so they settled with becoming teachers.

or they just studied whatever with no real end game then once reality kicks in that they have no real job prospects they just become teachers to reteach the cycle lol.

Only liked teachers that you had to work hard for your grade, and most of the time it was the female teachers. Had some good male teachers, but I would say most of them were too relaxed and lenient with rules and I hated that.

You're probably right. That said, as a teacher you influence a ton of lives. I can see that being appealing to people.

A mix of male and female authority figures when you're growing up is probably a good thing.

If you're talking about college professors, I probably had more males than females, and I think going into academia at that level is a totally valid profession.

General practitioners kind of are, they think they know everywhing when they're literally just the everyman who reads a website about your symptoms and tells you to "take this pill now fuck off"

Well, areas of study that are about furthering research and refining craft will, by their very nature, produce careers that revolve around furthering said area of study and teaching those who will further said area of study in the future. There's no getting around that. The basic hope we have as a society is that the results of furthering said area of study will eventually provide enough benefit to society to be worth it (even if most people won't ever realize the benefits it helped bring forth).

Also, while it's true that some people stumble backwards into teaching after failing a career focused on the practical application of their given field, these people are typically not the best teachers. What people seem to forget is that knowledge of the relevant subject matter isn't anywhere near enough to be a good teacher. Teaching is a specific set of skills entirely separate from the subjects being taught. Assuming that knowledge of a subject translates to being able to teach that subject is probably the biggest misconception about teaching.

I can't think of a job more important than teaching the future generations of the world..?

The male teachers I had were the best and worst.

The worst teacher I had was a guy who dressed like a hipster and had the heater on all the time. I was miserable because it was the class after P.E..

He had a bad attitude, you all know what you need to do so everyone shut up and do your work. Something along those lines.

He would also drink hot coffee every damn day. Two years later I learned he got fired after it was discovered that he was putting alcohol in his coffee.

the best 2 teachers i ever had were women, and the worst couple of teachers i had were women. the men seemed in general to be better though

My best professors at university were easily male. The female professors I had were generally a little too rigid for college coursework imo. And tbh they were usually fairly miserable experiences compared to male profs. Obviously those are generalizations but it held pretty firm in my uni experience.

But I agree with tcs OP about male teachers in high school or below at least generally. Worst teacher I had in hs though was a random bitch who apparently got fired the semester after I had her for physically assaulting (not sexually) a student or something.

Teachers get a full time salary for a part time job and get benefits for life. If you can handle a room full of children, there's no better deal.

My best friend is doing a teaching degree. His course is basically two regular bachelor degrees (in his case Physics and Chemistry), plus teacher-specific courses such as pedagogy.

It depends on where you teach. Some teachers to make 6 figures. It'd me nice to make that for such an easy job and get summers off.

This is toxic masculinity to its core.

When I retire, I want to be a Math teacher. If I go into teaching now, I'd feel like I'd be doing my kids a disservice because I want them to know what all you can do with math and physics and how dependent technology is on those principles. I'd have problems that explain these scenarios like finding the maximum weight a crane can handle or determining the percentage chance of X where the kids would have to be the calculators; I'd have all the mental framework down so they just need to click in the numbers. This way, they'd have a better appreciation for math and hopefully be inspired to make a career out of it.
