Gameplay is honestly just okay with some pretty dodgy controls, but holy CRAP is the ambiance good. Id heard good things for years and that aspect hasnt been overhyped at all. Constant pervading sense of I really shouldnt be here because something terrible definitely went down, similar to Soulsborne in that vibe. I kinda wish Breath of the Wild looked and felt more like this.

The fights are similar but honestly more clever than I expected the two Ive done so far where you need to hide to bait them into looking for you were clever, and the bird one was a blast.

Im playing on hard by the way. Havent died yet, wouldnt have wanted it any easier so far tbh. Its bittersweet how much this feels like a game from a bygone era not just the dated menu fonts and such, but just an ambitious, unique title that isnt the 95th installment in a franchise. Really cool.

I'm curious, is this basically it? Just do what I've done ten more times, five minute walk, five minute fight?

That's not inherently bad; like I said, it harkens back to a time when games weren't all summer blockbusters. I actually really like how the world is just this empty ruin. Just curious if I'm already approaching halfway done.

Yeah. You find the colossus, you kill the colossus. There are certain things like shiny tail lizards, but they are honestly not that important.

Also, what do you mean by hard difficulty? I'm pretty sure the original didn't have difficulty options, did they add them in the remaster?

Apparently in the original, there was a normal difficulty and a hard one you could unlock after beating the game. In the remaster, they give you an easy mode and a hard mode, instantly accessible. You're pretty fragile and the colossi have an additional weakspot.

Yeah pretty much. The travels between the fights get longer and the way you take down some of the colossi get more intricate of course, but yeah that's basically it.

It's amazing that it came out on PS2 originally. It's not as impressive if your first experience is one of the later versions but some of the boss battles are still epic as hell. The bird one and the flying one in the desert are intense.

Haven't done whichever desert one you're referring to, but the bird one was fucking incredible. Hard to believe this stuff was all done on PS2.

13 down. 13th was awesome, though I'd heard about it before so it wasn't a complete shocker. Most have been great, though 11 and 12 were my least favorites so far.

lol so basically this post was on point, though I'm not to 15 yet

9th honestly I didn't mind though. It was kind of a pain, sure, but I liked it overall, fun to climb the shell and he was so big that it was pretty gratifying flipping him over. 11 was both annoying (stunlocking) and uninspiring (a tiny "colossus" that is scared of fire? I get the lion idea, but... pass). 12 can eat a dick, though, mostly because it was seemingly bugged to shit for me and I was fighting it for like 15 minutes trying to get it to get on its hind legs again after the first time.

There's also a ton of fruit trees and white-tailed lizards to find all over the map, if you feel like exploring. It's very simple, they're sparsely placed and the reward is minimal, so it's not for everyone... but if you enjoy soaking in the scenery and wandering aimlessly, then these side-objectives can extend the life of the game by quite a lot.

in my experience, when you get on top of the "hut" 12 will instantly go on his hinds. my problem is 50% of the time that prick just stands there JUST out of your reach so you cant even jump on him. bastard..

15 isnt bad so dont worry; its just a bitch if you fall off the bridge (you'll see what i mean. gun it when you have the chance so you can jump on him after, you'll know when this happens )

it took me 72 colossi to get full stamina, along w 44 lizards. i will never do that again.

I'm gonna finish the game and then investigate what kind of investment we're talking to get Platinum.

Honestly, the gameplay is cool, but the ambiance is the real selling point. I've taken Agro miles off the beaten path to just walk around. The game is so fucking pretty and intricate, and while graphics aren't the be-all-end-all, I'm so glad this game got a remaster with this much tender love and care devoted to the looks. The art itself deserves to be fully realized.

Wow. Just finished. What a unique game and experience. Heartbreaking that your last act in game is to finally run out of stamina and let go, but a fantastic use of gaming mechanics as art. Had a feeling Dormin was malicious, so that wasnt too much of a shock to me. Interesting choice to give you like 5% of the story in the beginning and 95% at the end with nothing in the middle.

Dunno whats up with me being a demon baby but at least my girls alive. And Agro!!! Though he better fix his leg up. Cant have my boy living like that. Honestly though it was painted as a bittersweet ending, but does my lady have to spend her days in an abandoned land, no way out, talking to a gimp horse and Baby Satan? Because THAT is a rip-off, bro.

Also lmao I was getting towards the end and was thinking I was a little surprised/disappointed that none of them had been as big as the third boss, though I appreciate itd get stale if all of their gimmicks were Im a zillion feet tall, climb me

But then I got Argus and smiled

And then I got Malus and audibly went oh hoooo, fuck in a room by myself

I also loved how the further in you got, the more apparent it became that this used to be a place people lived. That vague sense of there is something really wrong, beyond just being a fantasy setting with fantasy monsters was completely pervasive.

The interesting thing is he actually doesn't seem all that bad to me. Like he's obviously probably not someone you should be dealing with when you don't know anything about him, but in the end he keeps his word about reviving the girl (despite not really succeeding at his goal of getting free) and he seems to release you from his possession when he gets re sealed (I believe his dialogue even references something about "borrowing" your body as opposed to anything more permanent). He seems to be willing to uphold his end of the bargain even when there's seemingly nothing in it for him.

Dormin was pretty upfront about you needing to pay some kind of price so it's not like there was any treachery involved either.

Yeah, fair commentary on Dormin. I guess I was viewing a giant shadowy spider-demon as obviously bad, but youre right that he honored the deal, presumably after he got flushed.
