I'm a little torn on it so far

Like I was really excited because people say it's like the best one since Black Flag

but honestly it feels like the combat system is a pretty big step back. It feels really loose and awkward, whereas Syndicate felt so much smoother by comparison.

The climbing is solid and the environment is fucking gorgeous but aside from the combat something just feels off about it

Also not sure how I feel about the trend lately where every adventure game suddenly wants to be an RPG

For the record, my AC ranking prior to this

II > Black Flag > Syndicate > Brotherhood >>>>> Unity = III > Revelations >>>>> I

I prefer Syndicate as well. I thought Origins was a great break away from the norm, however. In terms of controls, what are you playing on? I'm playing PC with controller and I haven't really felt a marked difference between Origins and Syndicate.

I'm playing on PS4

it's like, check out the combat from Syndicate

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sw1SIjtYbPU" data-time="

it had a feel much closer to something like the Arkham games. Very smooth transitioning between attacks, stuns and counters

Whereas this time there's very little use of counters, it's mostly jump away, then try to attack, or block and then try to attack. Feels like it's trying to be an action RPG like Souls or something rather than an action-adventure (which is a shame, because AC basically defined the action-adventure formula before the last few years)

Oh, that I kind of agree with. I thought you meant that the response was flawed or something. It's definitely trying to move in a different direction. That's actually pretty wise because if you can open up more doors with wider genre interest, you can publish more AC games.

Maybe it's wise, but I'm playing this directly after the new God of War (a huge action-adventure series that's also trying to become an RPG for some reason) and it's just kind of a shame? Like not every action game has to be an RPG and I don't want that to be the new standard, because 3rd-person action adventure games like AC are probably my favorite genre of game.

If Uncharted tries to become an RPG I might lose my shit

For what it's worth I find myself trying even harder to be stealthy in this game (but that's almost entirely because I try to avoid taking part in open combat because of how weird it feels)

I hated the combat and wasn't really into the game otherwise

it was probably the least I've enjoyed a game in the series
