Eh, I don't think so. Look at it this way: There's really no even remotely family-esque films out right now, and it's summer, a lot of families often like to go catch a movie as a family. There's Show Dogs I guess, but that bombed. Deadpool 2 just came out but families aren't gonna take their kids to see that (at least I hope not).

There's really nothing else for families until Incredibles 2 on June 15th. Most of the pre-sales were likely the Star Wars fanboys, not families, which are gonna be what keeps Solo up in the Box office the next couple weekends.

And there are theaters that just don't get enough traffic to fill up regardless.

There is one near my bros apartment that always has walk in tickets for any given showing even for a big movies release weekend, or midnight showing.

And when the show starts there are still plenty of seats.

It's so shitty that they let their desire for every scrap of revenue they could get ruin the unbroken legacy of Harrison Ford as the only actor to ever play Han Solo.

No, throwing the name "Star Wars" on something will not automatically print cash. It's a lesson which producers refuse to learn. Unicorns are less of a myth than the elusive loyal audience. People develop a fondness for products because those products are good. If the quality deteriorates, so does the audience's willingness to partake in them. There's no such thing as a paying customer who's stupid enough to buy anything as long as it has a certain brand name on it.

You can make a meal out of the chicken that lays the eggs, but you can say goodbye to having eggs every morning after that. Films like these can hurt the audience's trust in a franchise. If you make one mistake too many, that's it. There is some measure of loyalty, I'll grant you, but that can only be maintained by keeping a certain level of quality and not overdoing it.

Solo would've done better if it had been about an original character. There's no need to add new chapters to a book that's already closed. Han Solo is dead and Harrison Ford has moved on to other things. Unless Han had an illegitimate child who is going to turn around and be an ongoing cast member, there's nothing that a Han Solo prequel can add to the series. This is just an unnecessary side story and one which violates the fans' trust.

Good. It gets the movie on Netflix that much quicker.

69% at Rottentomatoes compared to TLJ's 91%, critic score.
