For me, I always play on the easiest mode for the 1st time. If I want to play it again, I'll play on normal.

One time in my life, I remember playing on normal first. However, I would never finish the game due to dying 50 times. Since I kept dying over and over doing the same thing, I lowered the difficulty settings, and was able to win the same method that killed me. I realized that there were games I had to start over but doing it in easy.

As a teenager mostly normal. Now I will start off on the difficulty right above normal. If its too much within the first 2 hrs Ill tune it down

Highest, always. Except Touhou because that's the only one that's even a challenge in the first place. I find most "hard" modes to be a sad joke

Depends. If I actually care about the game I'll play on the hardest difficulty. If I'm just trying to finish it and move on I'll play easy.

Depends on the gameplay style and if the game is properly balanced around difficulty. If hard mode just makes enemies into bullet sponges, then Ill do normal because that shit is lazy. Otherwise, I do hard mode.

Or at times they intended it to be easy for non gamers to not feel threatened by normal. Making Hard the actual default for veteran gamers.

If I played hard I may not make it halfway and this never accomplish finishing any game. I would keep dying over and over

With easy mode, Im able to have fun and beat games. Win win for me.

Lowest. I usually don't have the patience for higher difficulty anymore. Now, if I like the game a lot and want to replay it again and again, I will start trying higher difficulties.
