America may have a baby-making problem.

The US birth rate dropped to an all-time low in 2017, according to preliminary numbers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Women in the US gave birth to around 3,853,472 babies last year a 2% drop from 2016. At just over 60 births per every 1,000 women (between the ages of 15 and 44), this is the lowest birth rate the country has ever recorded.

The estimated fertility rate in the US is now roughly 1.76, meaning that women will have, on average, less than two kids each. That's the lowest fertility rate the country has logged since 1978.

People are getting smarter and realizing it's better to take care of yourself so you can have one child have the best life they can have rather than be pumping out kids like rabbits and overworking yourself to provide for them and thus inadvertently being unable to be as much of a parental figure for them as you can for less kids.

The newer generations seem to be less and less interested in children. Also marriage. If more people are waiting later in life to get married/commit to each other, I am guessing that will lessen the chances of children.

We had our first son when I was 26 and my wife 25 and our second almost 2 years latter. After which I permanently took care of that not happening again.

Either way, I don't think it's a bad thing. And I think it's also good that generations aren't be taught to rush out marry and have kids. Having a family consist of a husband and wife is just as much a family as one with kids.

It's totally fine. Overpopulation is a myth. The earth can actually sustain quite a bit more people than we ever will have. Experts say the population will never even reach 12 billion, which still wouldn't be considered overpopulated.

That is a non-situation and a non-issue, especially as far as most countries are concerned. In fact, most first world countries have been seeing a population decline.

Not really. It was a serious concern.

But thanks to SCIENCE it's much better. We're able to grow more and better crops thanks to GMOs and advances in farming techniques/fertilizer/pesticides.

Meanwhile, also thanks to SCIENCE people are living a lot longer and getting access to all sorts of life-prolonging surgeries and medications so...

See, you're confusing "not happening here at an ever increasing rate" with "not a problem".
Overpopulation is a global problem, not simply a matter of regional density.

But I guess you are one of those fucking idiots that thinks because all 7b people could fit in Texas it don't matter.

Nicklebro logic. The more people there are the less resources to go around thus lessening the average quality of life. Kids in a family of 4 would obviously have on average a better life than kids in a family of 10.

I mean, if the entire world's biomass were converted into humans then yeah we can theoretically have many more billions of people. Some of us like having nature, animals, and space to walk though.

Yes, people who deny that overpopulation is or could be a thing literally believe that "overpopulation" means "too little physical space for human bodies to occupy"

I always hear these people say things like "look at (flyover state x) and how much empty space there is, you can't tell me overpopulation is a thing!"
