Just know what the root word is and you can deduce the rest. For the FF series specifically, I prefer 1/2/3 mostly because of a) habit and b) specifying between firaga and firaja is flippin' stupid --- Remember that I won't rest, 'til we share the same tense Just know, to me, you're better late than never again. ... (base), -ra, -ga is how it's always been. The 1, 2, 3, was done by the translation teams because of limited character slots, except FF7 where they only did it because that's how the english readers always knew it. The Suffixes are also superior because they add some flavor to the spells names. I don't know about you but if I was a mage, I wouldn't want to yell out "Blizzard 2" when casting my spells.

Eh, if it's spells that are gonna be somehow referred to in the lore, then definitely not the numbered version. If it's just OOC info for the player about the strength of the Fire spell, it's perfectly fine.

I prefer -ra, -ga and -ja, even in the retranslations. Pity they felt the need to throw the Atma, Doom, and Master Pug babies out with the bathwater.
